4 Leg Weapons locked behind Defeat the Risen High Wizard - Can NOT fight him unless the Arah Gate Fails

Regarding the Risen High Wizard in  Cursed Shore, 4 legendary weapon collections are locked behind him.

However, he's only sure to spawn IF the defend event of the gates of Arah fails. This is necessary to force the meta event chain of the assault that leads to him spawning 100%.

The Wiki of the gate defense mentions that he MIGHT spawn during defense.

HOWEVER, it's not even clear what conditions lead to him spawning during the defense.

 

Other players almost always try to succeed in the event. Since the failure of the event locks the Arah Dungeon.

It's not like we can grab other players by the neck and force them to fail an event. Unfortunately, only the FAIL state leads to a sure spawn of him.

Being sad to see other players clear the event is against ANet's GW2 philosophy of "happy to see another player" in PvE.

 

Can you fix this please? I've been waiting the whole day and no map has failed this event. It's that bad, I wouldn't be surprised if others wait several days or weeks to even get this achieve that locks the collection.

One change that could help here is making dungeons permanently open. People were annoyed by dungeons being contested even all the way back at launch, yet Arenanet still refuses to change that.

Another change could be to let the collections progress from simply completing the defence, even if the boss doesn't appear.

But I don't think this belongs into the bug category.

Thanks! Yeah needing a lot of people just to do long dungeon escort events is painful. Especially compared to the convenience of Fractals and Strikes.

Yeah, it would be nice also if they consistently made the Risen High Wizard appear during defense. It seems anomalous/buggy to me that some defenses have him, and some not.

I found out later on the wiki that the Assault on Arah resets evey 1.5 hours after the first Assault clear. (Though I only found this out by parking my toon on the map for an hour plus. Since when I dipped in and out of the Cursed Shore, the meta would either be finished or on another timer.)

Is that so, maybe the mods can move this to a more appropriate part of the forums?

I think the Orr temples just need to be attacked more often, so they fail more often. It needs to be frequent enough that players can't cover them 24/7, but with their ~2 hours timer that's currently very easy to do.


Defense events shouldn't keep the temple safe for more than 15mins.

 

I would maybe exclude the Temple of Balthazar from this however since it takes so long to ramp up. Its also the only temple that's valueable to hold semi-permanently (Obsidian Shards).

That should be past, no dungeon is locked behind map status anymore if you use the (quite new) lionarch entry.

Having done both astralaria and hope. These collections in Orr were a pain in the kittens. 

Don't even get me started on that Risen high wizard. I had to hatch an elaborate plan during a small window of activity between the Oceanic prime time and the Central Asia / Eastern Europe prime time, a dead zone when player activity fell off the cliff, and the Gates of Arah would fail completely, to start another escort mission to attack the Gates of Arah.

This is the case now, assuming you use the dungeon entrance from Lion's Arch.
