Boogiepop Void.6473
ESC has very inconsistent behavior in game. Some menus it will close (inventory, hero panel, wvw, pvp) but only after interrupting actions (harvesting, crafting). It opens the system menu, but then will preferentially close everything else it can before closing the system menu. It also DOESN'T close random things, like waypoint movement, stat selections, item sections, and story/heart windows. This behavior needs to be cleaned up and made consistent. Illconceived Was Na.9781
I've thought this since BETA. It's gotten worse in some ways. But every time I want to make a useful suggestion, I, um, practically fall asleep trying to identify just which windows/dialogue don't respond consistently.I think what I'd like to see is that [ESC] is used strictly for cancelling in-game actions and the one-button close active window/dialogue gets replaced by a customizable hotkey (or vice-versa).Along the same lines, some windows open over others... and some don't. For example, you can press [m]ap after opening nventory, but not the other way around. Opening nventory puts the panel in front of all other windows, but opening the Living World Portal Tome always puts it behind every other window.Similarly, some windows remember their last position... and some don't. Be nice if some dev took it upon themselves as a pet project to review this behavior and propose a plan for making it consistent. I bet they'd get some really good internal and player feedback. Zedek.8932
Excelsior.Yes, the ESC button has a very annoying thing to to it and made me yell more than once.Unlike the thread creator said, it not just opens the game menu, but it won't close it again. What is that? He is right about closing everytihng else, except for "You are overloaded" pop-up. The last time I had a tense fight, I received some junk, the message blocked my view, I tried to ESC it away. No dice, I had now TWO menus that blocked my view and none responded to the escape button.
Charrbeque.8729
Sometimes when I want to stop auto-attacking something I have to press the ESC key a few times until the game options window appears. Edit: Usually the only time I ever press the ESC key is to stop auto-attacking.Edit: forgot to make that 'i' capital. LOL

LOLUgh, I can relate all too well with this.If I received a copper for every time ESC was unresponsive when deselecting a target or to stop auto-attacking, I'd be rich enough to afford crafting legendaries! :pJokes aside, having ESC perform consistently would be a hella nice QoL fix. Horrible GUI.There are others saying about this here.I've asked Anet, and they basically say it's been so from the start, so suck it up, for now.Yet still voice your concerns.LOVE to see this change for better GW2 QoL. Eldrich.5764
ESC not cancelling focus on the search box in my inventory drives me insane. I pretty much never use that box to begin with but it will inevitably gain focus almost every time and then I end up needing to use my mouse to exit out instead of using my hotkey because it thinks I want to search for something.
