New dailies/weeklies [Merged]

Removing a huge chunk of the flexibility and variety from the daily is a horrible decision. Esp when you have experienced players used to it, so left all 3 game mode checked, expecting to see a 12 option spread; instead got a 4 non-optional tasks. 

I can understand (if not agree with) removing login rewards, but removing player choices for dailies is the wrong way to go about things. Full stop

Yeah and the thing is, some days you have more time to play, others (Fridays mostly in my case) less, and I used to be able to pick three that I could feasibly do in the little time I had on Fridays - now I can't because it's pre-selected for me, so that's 1 day every week 52 weeks a year I won't be doing dailies anymore. And honestly, no-one, NO-ONE in their right mind will pick WvW. Escort 10 dolys is just sad and defend 10 objectives in WvW? I already miss the 10 defend WvW weekly every week because it's so badly designed and finicky. Thanks Anet.

Sounds like the story is decent and map design looks good (imo).

But...the amount of changes nobody asked for. Those changes seem even worse than the initial impressions made them out to be.

Wow. I'm usually very positive about the direction Anet are taking and I thought the Wizard's Vault would be cool but I'm very disappointed about this. The choice was so much better under the old system - I could do a mix of PvE, WvW and even occasionally PvP depending on how I felt and what dailies interested me. Now I will never have a PvP reward available because there's no way I'm risking turning it on, I only want to PvP once every few weeks.

Worse, from my point of view, the PvE dailies/weeklies, etc seem to assume that you play all expansions you own. My family and friends are playing through the story in order and I am only up to Heart of Thorns (some haven't even reached HoT yet). The old system occasionally threw up dailies in HoT or PoF but with the WvW and PvP dailies available it was always possible to do at least 3.

The new system is giving out dailies in all expansions, even for SOTO! This is ridiculous. We're at least 6 months away from playing SOTO (also months away from EOD) so we are being horribly punished for supporting Anet and buying the expansions. Obviously we were not meant to buy them until we reach that part of the story?

That's without getting into how the dailies vary so much between different accounts. My son and I often do dailies together, sometimes joined by friends, but we have a mix of different expansions and none of the rest play WvW so they won't be ticking that box. It seems like our dailies will virtually never line up?

It's just appalling. It's like they don't want us to play? Or certainly don't want us to play together or use the dailies as a source of motivation (impossible when they are in maps I refuse to play until I get to that point in the story).

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That's one of the most basic of axioms.

Afaik, dailies weren't "broke."  However, ANet, in an apparent attempt to "fix" them, broke them.

I wish I could say that I am surprised.  I would have been at one time.

 

ANET STAFF MEETING EXCERPT (HYPOTHETICAL)

Lead: So, what are some of the things that there are to do that people avoid like the plague?

Staff: <presents long list>

Lead: Ok, how can we change these things so people will do them?  Ideas?

Staff 1: Let's revamp the daily reward system to include these play elements.  We can eliminate the problem caused when players bought multiple accounts to farm the logins.  We can incentivize people to engage with elements of the game they despise and thus avoid!

Lead: Discussion?

Staff 2: So, rather than revamp the game play elements to make them more enjoyable, we just tie rewards they're used to getting to those elements?  Sounds like a lot less work.

Staff 3: Hey, we can also roll the daily revamp this entails as a feature for the new expansion!  since the XPak is light on features, this kills two birds with one stone.

Lead: Sounds like a great idea, now nuts and bolts!

I've come here to express the same disappointment. As someone who isn't caught up on expansions or current content at all, 3 out my 4 PvE dailies/weeklies are in content I haven't unlocked or done yet at all. At least with the old daily system, I could pick out something in PvP or WvW to fill the necessary dailies but with this one I can't. I wish this was more aware of where you are in content or at least give me options that isn't this random.

This makes me angry! Seriously, how THOUGHTLESS that Anet FORCES people to play the extra content!? What if I don't want to play the new content because EVERYONE is playing it? Or I'm waiting for others in my guild to play with, who, by the way, won't be available until this weekend. THOUGHTLESS! I hope more thought went into the content, but with what I've experienced thus far, it's not looking good.

I feel like I'm playing a game written by a bunch of newbies. No thought is going into PLAYER EXPERIENCE. >.< Everything developed in a silo.

This is also the feeling I get for some of the new stuff. I find it very hard to believe that someone who thinks that escorting dolyaks is anything other than boring as hell has ever played WvW.

It definitely needs more options, QoL features, and the layout of the rewards options is just... insane, but I see what they were trying to do with it and as a player without an army of login bots, mostly prefer it's unique rewards over the old dailies so far (so far being a single day, so you know, grain of salt). I don't doubt that they'll eventually nail down the lack of choice issues, but I'm mostly worried about what the price increase for rewards that have been rotated out is going to be. Anything over a 25% increase could definitely lead to escalating FOMO and burnout as people become desperate to unlock everything before it's rotated out and the backlog becomes overwhelming. I guess that will also come down to what the release cadence on new cosmetics is and if it's even possible to unlock them all at their discounted price in time. But even then I'm inclined to give them some benefit of the doubt, because at least they're committed to keeping the rewards in the game forever, which is infinitely better than almost every other live service game out there where it's just like, "Oh your super grindy battle pass is gone forever after the season is over? Welp guess Im just never playing your game then." GW2 might be a glorious mess that takes some time to get its features/content right, but I really can't think of a single instance where I could ever accuse Anet of being purposefully greedy or manipulative or having disrespected my time.

I don't even know when you are eligible for escorting dolly. Do you just run with the cow for some time? Do I need to run the whole way? Must the cow be under attack? Cause I think thats the defend the cow event and not the escort the cow. Is that the same thing?

We already have wvw weeklies where we kill the cows. And now we have another set of weeklies where we escort the cows. So many weeklies.

Bet: Anet wanted to reduce the number of dailies, but they know there would be complaints about it, so they hit dailies as hard as possible, making them 3 in total. Soon they'll add some more with the cap of 4 (including log in) and it will be a "see, we listened" moment 😄

We already have wvw weeklies where we kill the cows. And now we have another set of weeklies where we escort the cows. So many weeklies.

Pretty sure you need to stand/run near the cow until the bubble shows up and then the cow needs to reach the destination, but you don't need to be next to it anymore.

Do you know if the tasks are random per player? Or are they the same set dailes for everyone, as they were before? Like if both my wife and I choose only PvE, do we get the same 3 tasks?

My core account all got the same pve dailies.

salvage 10 things, kill 10 normal monsters and harvest 10 things using a sickle.

My pof account got.

View 1 desert  vista, kill 5 veterans and do a heart.

My Eod one got.

View 1 heart of thorns vista, kill 1 elite monster and defeat 10  enemies while having food buff on you.

What? You dont play everything right away the first day? YOu say some people work on tuesday and wednesday and are waiting for weekend to play new content? How dare they!.....Yes, I agree with you. I understand that it is random but it wasnt hard to force it to dont pick dailies for new content the very first day.

They used the words choice and choose an awful lot in their prerelease announcement.  We had 3 out of 12, that was choice.  Now its, here is your 4, go do these 4 no choice.  Its not choice Anet, its pick a box to pre-restrict your options and lock you into an unknown requirement.  This new system SUCKS A.
