TheLadyOfTheRings.9148
Hey everyone. I'm creating a harpy OC and would like to choose a lore-friendly name for her. Does anyone know what the naming convention is for harpies? The only first name I know of is Shrilliss, and then there's the last names/titles Sheerfeather, Talonslayer, and Scrabclaw, which seem to be inspired by words associated with birds. What names would you pick for a female harpy? Thanks! Edited September 5, 2023 by TheLadyOfTheRings.9148
bruakumfd.4817
Hello there. I used fantasynamegenerators.com. Gloris, Loveris, and Yeserin were three that I liked.

I ended up choosing the name Lysith, inspired by the Greek mythology name Lysithea (which means "goddess of release, loosening"; fits Lysith's story pretty well since she was a captive but was able to free herself and escape). I wanted a Greek name because as far as I could tell, the harpies are first mentioned in Greek mythology 🙂
Wyrdern.4092
I made a harpy character and the lore for harpies in gw2 is pretty thin, idk if they even have naming conventions apart from the titles been somewhat bird related. Personally I just worked around the issue by having them just adopt their human given name to try blend in more.
mercury ranique.2170
afaik, there is no naming convention, so feel free to do it for yourself. One way to go could be: They where once followers of Dwayna. As Dwayna comes from Dwayne, an anglican version of an old irish name, You could go for these kind of names. e.g. the names in blue on this page: Old Celtic Names - Behind the Name
