Mech from mechanist not applying buffs to engineer that owns it in large-scale group content?

Not 100% sure if this is a bug or not, but I've noticed that in events with more than a few people, even standing right ontop of my mech, it doesn't seem to prioritize the engineer themselves with the middle line of Mechanist traits. It's fairly annoying playing a mechanist with support buffs but you end up getting none of it. You'd think the engineer would get first dibs on the mech's buffs before it chose other targets, similar to how you do with your own buffs from normal abilities.
