Not entirely true; in my experience, the fun/silly/gimmicky things are usually the ones that end up being broken, because they aren’t thinking how they’ll interact with other things in a serious balance sense when implementing them.

Case in point when they had to add an internal cooldown to Soulcleave’s Summit specifically because of the original Rune of the Mad King because it both worked as the trigger for the ravens attack and meant you spiked them with the life stealing damage 16x. It was glorious, and hilarious while it lasted.

So yeah, I’d like this back as a relic, because it’s fun, but I definitely think almost every silly fun little gimmick is probably some sort of game break waiting for someone to figure out 😅

Because Mad King stuff is part of Halloween, a hypothetical Relic of the Mad King would also be related to it.

At least I assume that's the reason.

But that was not because the Rune was broken in any shape or form, that was because the ability wasn't accounting for edge cases.

And given that they fixed that long ago, there's no reason to not have this Relic.

And if they are afraid for some interaction with other traits and abilities, they can simply have the ravens be no more than a particle effect that does not affect combat at all. I'm sure some people would still use it for fun.

Oh, I wasn’t saying that the Mad King rune bonus was still broken or shouldn’t be re-added to the game, just that it isn’t always innocuous to add “fun” relics in a general sense. Because even if the relic itself isn’t broken, there’s more potential for broken interactions due to oversights like that 😛

have a Raven reaper and everything about my character is making it like Master of Ravens i have the shadow raven from halloween and even bought the white raven yesterday , i grinded and got Nevermore , i got the raven mantle from gem shop i have the vermillion wings dyed black i chose the raven dagger from the box of skins they gave away , i got the raven scepter from bjora marches , i hunted out the funerary  leggings cuz they looked like black feathers ... i was only missing this relic to be out by them to finish it and was excited for it

yes! I love ravens and I loved having my ravens summon. I at first liked the idea of relics because I would be able to combine the raven summon with rune bonuses that fit my build better, but then at release it was removed entirely. I held some hope they would bring it back as a relic or a relic with a similar ability during the halloween event, but I haven't seen it so far :c

Yea and your hope that they would bring it back during halloween was based on what?

based on the fact that it was the 6th tier bonus from the rune of the mad king. If they were to release a relic of the mad king, the next "shadow of the mad king"-event would be the time to do it. That just seemed like a reasonable thought, that's all.

Balance team hates fun, it's not even a joke at this point. They only care about numbers, anything that's a little different needs to go.

As far as i can tell, there isn't even a balance team anymore. I don't think I've seen a patch aiming for any semblance of balance in years. All I remember them doing in the last years was simply changing things for the sake of changing things.

And with the Relic system, they exchanged a non-negligible amount of the fun people had for literally nothing.

And yet, the number of viable options for high end pve has never been so high in the last years. 

I know you're salted about rune change, but no need to extend that to the whole balance... 

Aversion loss really is a thing...

More options for the top end means little, when the average players are the ones paying for it.

Neutering the fun out of something, merely because top end people might abuse it, always is the wrong thing to do.

If you want to talk average, the average don't have any rune slotted and probably didn't even noticed the change unless someone told them. I would even say some would even benefit from the free relic selection, so that's a plus for them. 

The one you talk about are those slightly aware about their rune, and it's probably a mixed bag, some probably enjoy the new flexibility and some are mad because they lose their favorite rune, namely : boonspitting rune, summon rune and some outliner like vampirism and 10% health. I'm pretty sure no one complained about on struck, stat convertion rune or some bad on heal/on elite skill that where lost.

Not so sure about that. There may be more variety in what is considered ideal or meta, but viable means capable of functioning. Since dps minimums and such for all but CM versions, which are a tiny fraction of end game, are quite low all classes have had plenty of viable (again the word does not mean meta or ideal) options for years.

Well, for a long time, your healer were basically druid and firebrand, your boon provider were firebrand, chrono or renegade, warriors were kinda shoehorn there with banners. The rest were dps with a lot a magnetude on the dps chart. Also, dps were much lower so the minimum dps, despite being low, were harder to get in general.

To be fair, if we talk about viable in your terms, I'm pretty sure right now, every class and spec is viable and a good bunch of them could be considered meta (despite the presence of a few outliners). That was clearly not the case a few years ago.

Exactly, and has been the case for most of the life of the game. I do agree that performance approaching ideal or meta is more broadly distributed across classes and specs now though. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it has come at the cost of class identity/fantasy. Homogenization is boring, again in my opinion.

I have lived and breathed my ravens, they are an asset to my gameplay experience, and will be solely missed. I cry every single night about the loss of my ravens and their crazy scaling when bosses were weird sized.

also, first and probably last forum post. I had to express my pain and suffering as the game has not been the same since. I can't see match chat going "wtf ravens" now, only "dead wp". sad.
