Defense Event daily bugged?

Not sure what qualifies any more, but unable to achieve this. I tried:

 

1. Repairing the wall of a currently under attack tower

2. Killing a player in a currently under attack tower

3. Rezzing a camp lord in a currently under attack camp

4. Doing damage to multiple players in a currently under attack tower

 

What am I doing wrong? Like nothing is working to trigger this

The only way to get defense credit is to participate in the kill of an attacking player who has damaged a structure or done significant damage to guards.  Repair no longer counts.  Killing players who have not damaged structure or guards sufficiently to qualify does not count.  Rezzing NPC's does not count.  Doing damage to "multiple players" would only count if they qualified (as above), died, and you did enough damage to get kill participation.

Rejoice! The bug you feared is actually a feature.

Seriously, though, the best way to get credit is to catch the enemy in the capture circle (etc.) after they've done significant damage to the lord.  It even helps if you stomp one.

The only way to get defense credit, is by KILLING a player that has satisfied criteria for Attack credit.

So, what does an Attacker do to get credit? the cases that ik of, are
1. Killing a Guard, merely damaging them doesn't work.
  And if somebody says they've gotten credit before by merely tapping 1, thats becuz another person came along and finished the Guard.
2. Dealing enuf dmg to a Structure to gain exp from the Wall/Gate going down.
  Sometimes merely using a Cata and landing 2-3 shots isn't enuf to get credit, we have to SEE the exp pop for the Attack credit to work.
  This makes it extremely difficult to gauge who on the enemy team satisfied the criteria, unless they were there from start to finish operating siege.
3. KILLED lord.
  This is slightly more forgiving, becuz even lightly tapping Lord, will pop exp.
4. Be in the Ring when it shows.
  Again, very forgiving, just be in it if you didn't manage to get the above 3 chances, just like Camp captures.

Back to the point, you have to KILL a player who has satisfied Attack credit, meaning somebody who has done 1 of the first 3 options.
The 4th cannot count since...obviously the structure has alrdy been lost.

Now that is a separate thread on why not but that seems to be the line in the sand.

Thank you for the detailed responses . I get what anet is trying to encourage here.

Since an 'attacker' credit is required in order to accomplish the defense event I would propose that anet simply change the daily to "Attack or Defend" where you can get credit as either an attacker or a defender. Would alleviate a lot of frustration.
