Eddie.9143 Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 for example, using ley line pistol sound on concealed jade tech pistol. nothing insane, just a nice change. 1
Jedrik.3109 Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 (edited) There is a way to replace the sound files in the game to whatever you want. I had done it with the zone music. Don't have the specifics due to not being at my home pc. But a quick Google search got this boomer there. Gl. Edited November 1, 2023 by Jedrik.3109 Me can't spell.

I don't think it's allowed to tinker with the Gw2.dat archive, unless you want to risk a ban. And there is no 3rd party audio "overlay", AFAIK. 2

But 11 years of listening to drum and bass in Lion's Arch but I realize this is conformation bias.
Danikat.8537 Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 Anet created a way to replace the in-game music with your own custom soundtrack, but it only works for music: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Customized_soundtrack They possibly could do something similar for weapon sounds. I assume they're handled client side because you can mute both your own and other players unique item sounds without it affecting anyone else. But I suppose it depends on how the game 'knows' which sound to play. It might be the same as the music so for example you create a file called leylinepistol.mp3 and it plays that whenever you're using a leyline pistol. (Although Anet would need to tell us what each weapon's sound file is called, because I doubt they're all exactly the same as the weapon name.) If it's handled differently it might need an entirely new system. 3
Quench.7091 Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 (edited) Personally, I think they should go back and theme some of these pistol and rifle projectiles better. There are dredge sound-based weapons firing bullets instead of sonic waves. There are other energy weapons not firing things like electricity, even though they have no barrels. These types of projectiles for already exist within the game files and are utilized by NPCs or the engineer mainhand pistol. I think people avoid using these weapon skins, because of how the weapon theme and projectile theme don't match. The 'Concealed Jade Tech Pistol' is a jade-based energy weapon. It should fire jade energy projectiles. Edited November 3, 2023 by Quench.7091 3

Or you could just turn down the music in game and put on your own music that you want to hear while playing the game. But sure, let's go for a more technical approach that could get you banned if they find out. Makes perfect sense. 🙄 1

And I'm not the only one, it seems. I prefer my option, though. Less work, same result.
