Suggestion: Please Stop locking Skills Behind Story Content.

Dear Dev's 

Please stop locking skill behind pointless Story Content. I would like to be able to use the Jade bot Skills, that would be useful at times; but I have to get through 5 Chapters of Story. 

So I Wasted about 90 Minutes Fishing, because I need to get a Fish for Aurene, and your instructions say, when the Bobber Bobs set your hook, it does not say, wait for the Red !, it says when the Bobber Bobs. I might still be doing that if a Guildie had not told me what to do, and WHY do I need to do this at all. 

Oh but we need to introduce you to Fishing, you might like Fishing. Uhm no, Ok I am very much a Hack and Slash Player, there are a good few of us, there is a whole Genre of Gaming. So Anytime I am not Putting a Broadsword to something Uglies Head is a waste of my Precious time off, ok!  Anytime spent Fishing, Listening to the Endless Prattle of NPCs, Punting on a Skiff; (My Next lil CHORE) Is time Wasted. You even worked in a Trip to the DMV, well that's fun, it must be fun because sometimes in real life people plan a whole day around doing it. 

NEWS FLASH: It is not your job to Punish Players for being stupid enough to play your game! Ok you are Game Developers, Coders, that is a Dream Job for some people, so if you don't like it walk!

And you know there is another Dream Job out there, its Called Author, it involves people who are very skilled at writing and crafting Stories people WANT to read; THAT IS NOT YOU! Ok, the 6th grade reading level Treacle  that you hang your game on is NOT something any publisher in their right mind would greenlight.  I know some people love the Story, love the lore, and while that is incomprehensible to me, but I know this is true, and I mean them no grief. 

But Please for the Love of Abbadon, give those of use who do not share that opinion another route. Why can I not just complete a Heart in the appropriate Zone to unlock the Jade Bot line, or any other Mastery when I have NO interest in the rest of it. Come to think of it, why is any mastery it locked at all. Just let ME, THE Player, the guy that pays your rent,  decide what skills I need to unlock and what I don't give a Tinkers kitten About. Ok. How Hard is THAT!.

I'm pretty sure almost every game (hack and slash included) locks feature behind game progression (so story progression in most non online game). 

So that's not something unusual in the industry and you should be used to it. 

Also, you don't need jade bot since you're and hack and slash player, as most of what it offers is unrelated to fight.

It took you 90 minutes to figure out how fishing works through a guild member? How many attempts during this time did you make? This smells fishy. It must be a bait or pure dedication!

Freya, no just Raw Stubbornness. The minimal instructions you get just indicate watch the Bobber, not for a !  So that's what I did. 

Shurzuru:  Oh the bot itself is not really of interest, but access to Ziplines, and Teleports are, and yes, I have played a fair number of MMOs now. 

but none that Bury things so deep as GW2, and I have never found that having reached Endgame I need to do more than one or two Quests to access next level stuff. 

Played Tera a long time before it closed down last year, When they added their "Apex" skills I believe they were called that was one short Quest, just going into an instance and beating one Mega Boss. A bit of a Pain but at least it involved fighting. And you got some great skills out of it.

So, you don't want to play the game... Skills are often locked behind story... that's not a new concept.

I would agree if it was something very hard to get, but rewarding players is a way to have them interact with the game.

A skill is a good way to do so and it's really not that hard to get. If you made it through the other parts of the game, this should really be easy for you. Even as a new player.

Also, you can just buy a jade core on TP.

You can express an opinion without the disrespect to the developers. It might encourage more people to give your thoughts some consideration rather than being able to dismiss them as just angry ranting from someone who sounds like they should go back to one of the other many MMOs they have played. Especially when you also seem to strive to insult anyone who enjoys the lore (the 'I know some people like it, but they are WRONG' bit).

You realize you just branded everyone who plays GW2, including yourself, an idiot? You even admit to feeling punished yet you still do it. That says everything about you and nothing about the game. I have one of my toon completed the EoD story, a few dabbling here and there, all 11 of my toons has the jadebot skills, all of them can do fishing. what are you even talking about.

They reasonably inferred it from "It is not your job to Punish Players for being stupid enough to play your game! " Followed by saying you couldn't comprehend why anyone enjoyed the "6th grade" writing.

You have some good points but you certainly could present them more constructively.  And remember one of your points is that this game does have a wide player base -- so the parts you're complaining about are the parts other players adore.  Very few players are going to adore every single thing about the game.  You have found a number of things you dislike, so the balancing question for you becomes whether you enjoy enough of the rest of the game to keep playing it while ignoring those parts you don't enjoy.

If it takes 90min to do a 1min task, maybe gaming isn't for you? 

I mean, beides the actual Mini game, fishing works like real life. 

Throw out hook, wait for fish to bite, pull.
