What the heck is going on with guild decorations

I was so excited to see that we got a lot of new guild decorations... and then I wasn't. It takes 4 pcs of t6 leater per chisel times 30. But wait, don't stop there, now you have to go grind out mats in Auric Basin and the new map that was just released. 

Literally can't understand why they made this virtually impossible for new players that are grinding gold for their ascended and legendary equipment. Even as a player from the beginning of the game, I am not interested in just throwing my hard earned gold at this kind of nonsense. 

I support Anet through purchases from the gem store every month. Now they want even more. It's really outrageous.

Guild decorations are meant to be the product of several people working together, that's why scribing costs run higher than other crafting. Any guild where 30 people will each contribute 4 pieces of leather will make the cost quite insignificant

Hi Ali, are you trying to craft those Astral and Academic decorations? I have seen a few Kryptis stuffs in the decoration panel, but they are not available yet.

The thing is, only very few members are interested in contributing to hall decorations. For example, a max level guild with say 400+ members, on average only like 1% to 2% will want to contribute mats for your GH. Vast majority goes to the Hall for nodes harvesting and guild buffs. That's all they are interested, not the decorations. My understanding is that guild leaders who love decorating, usually they are on their own.

But, if you do have members who made regular contributions to your guild consider yourself very lucky. Please show some appreciations 🙃. I know few GLs who pretended not to know or didn't care at all. I think it's just plain rude. And dumb 🐷

This has been my experience too. As a guild hall designer for three guilds over the years and having supported a few guild halls, the main contributors have always been longtime vets (generally gw1 players) with lots of gold and no outlet to spend it. Creatively and financially, the guild hall decorator is usually on their own, but even if you contribute there's no guarantee your designated guild hall decorator will listen to your suggestions to stop walling off the path to the kitten resource nodes.

 

I think the problem with Guild Halls as a whole is that it directly competes with the resources players need to build their accounts. Most people want to sink their time and resources into something more tangible, like legendary armor, fashion, a griffin, etc. Which is a shame, because I REALLY like seeing what a bored person can do in a weekend.

Those mats from the new map are kinda hard to come by too. I played about 30 mins doing escort and fighting a mini boss there and all I got was 11 calcified gasps and you need a stack of 250 gassp to exchange for 1, yes one miserable scream! You will need a total of 44 screams to make one of each of the Kryptis decors 🤕 Anyway they are just pillar (again), wall (again), floor (again), platform(again) and a few meh stuffs 👎 Boo

they abandoned this around the era of icebrood saga, and started giving guild decorations fairly easily. you still had expensive ones but they were very posh, the new decorations have returned to the original release manifesto of "pay 100g for a wall" which the developers moved on from long ago.

 

that's why players are finding this particularly jarring. no one's going to pay the cost of a legendary to create a small scene.

 

also in my experience most resources donated to a guild don't go towards crafting, they go towards players creating legendaries or for getting essential items for group content such as the skyscale, and gold goes towards wvw transfers (which is like 600g per player usually).

 

the scribes have always been solely responsible for almost all guild decorating.

20 or 30 orichalcum chisels a floor panel or pillar? When fancy pillars previously were only 3?

These costs are extremely too far even if you hide behind the "it is a guild effort" to make them. It is a guild effort to make dozens of decorations for a theme, not one or two.

 

We can't play around with decorating with this outrageous pricing. It is no wonder Guild features aren't popular and Anet abandoned updating it.

Yeah, it's sad. We need and update on how many items in an area. I don't understand why we don't have the pretty benches and pictures that are in armistice. Oh, and the trees that were in eod. I keep hoping but it's a lot of disappointment

Personally I like to level my solo guild - but mainly for completion and maybe to use it in WvW (for the upgrades). Decorations there are also cheap ones. But some are meant to be harder to get. Especially the ones with the world boss tokens where you an upgrade to higher trophies that need a ton of those. (Might be cheap though if some players "sell" them lol.)
