I still have hope for more exciting Mnions that move away from the outdated Vanilla Minion design. I want more quantity of minions to add to my build, but also would like higher quality minions with exciting animations and models that scream "This is freaking Badkitten!"

Minions is 1 of the core fantasies about necromancer so I agree.

Atm necromancer is most used around conditions plaqueing the enemies in different ways and reviving players. These are also necro fantasy well themed and are doing it great, minions aren't sadly. So because of that part I don't feel the necromancer vibe, more like some sort of unholy warlock.

So yes make minions great ! ( no passive afk bot playstyle like I mentioned in my post with other stuff around it)

I've always based necromancers off the Everquest Necro but never found a game that does it the same way.

Dev's always seem to create weird minions with no relation to raising the dead ... why can't we have skeletons? or at least the undead like the Risen as minions?

Using the Risen would give us a range of different (combat) types that are actually undead and could have been raised from a corpse.

*sigh*

GW1 minion skills required corpses, which meant you (or your henchmen/heroes) had to kill off a few enemies first to build your undead army from. Not sure why they moved away from that.

And in EQ you had to carry bone chips (which dropped from mobs) to be able to summon your minions so I wouldn't be too put off by that.

*sigh* I really want my tiny Dark Elf with her giant skeleton minion towering over her ... good times!

My guess is that they changed it to prevent other players from taking the bodies of enemies you killed. Unlike GW1's group instances, GW2's overworld is shared after all.

On similarly note, Wells require corpses in GW1 as well. Thief may be one thing, but imagine Mesmer having to use corpses for their wells.

It's not that I don't share the sentiment but beyond the poor aesthetic the minion mechanic isn't especially great in game while WvW don't like minions as it make players' ping weak, the devs have been nerfing minion gen there again and again. It would be funny to see them introduce more minions after that.

played a bit of wow demo warlock, now that's a proper minionmancer

owww finally someone who knows that one too. I have been waiting for this as reference too haha. Yess that WoW demonology warlock has really good minion useage !!!

It has some passive auto attacks yes, but most comes from active useage, how it should be. it promotes not afk bot minion play. In gw2 minion useage is pretty passive, and that's why the many nerfs since you don't have to do much. They should take notes from such.

We could even get death magic traits, extra effects like in corruption, that gives shroud abilties extra effects for active minion useage. And that ontop of somehow reworked minions on themself that are less passive playstyle.

Since they've already removed other non-Necro summons (rune effects deleted with no indication they will ever return in relic form), I'd guess that ANet isn't exactly thrilled with the way minion mechanics work. It would be strange indeed for them to improve minions in any way. Minions may be on the edge of being abandoned content like underwater combat: it still exists but don't expect it to get any attention unless someone figures out a way to profit from it somehow.

I like how the necromancer minions look for the most part, but a couple of them could definitely benefit from an aesthetical overhaul (Looking at your flesh turkey).

I also agree that minions need an overhaul completely. They're just too passive and don't offer much imo.

yea agreed. And that passive playstyle made it too ez to use when they were stronger and a nuisance for others
