WvW lootboxes are completely worthless. Why even bother?

They just give you random junk. And sure, while the junk you get may be worth 1 silver more than the box price and the price of a key, you still only get 20ish of them every week.

For the time investment, the rewards pale in comparison to something like fractal encryptions, and those are far easier to get.

For context:

Unopened Box (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mist-Hardened_Lockbox) sells for slightly above 4s on the TP
Lockbox Key (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mist-Hardened_Lockbox_Key) costs you 3.5s + x (like Badges, which also have a value, because you can e.g. buy siege to sell on the TP & is the cheapest variant of keys to get; if you chose any other x item than Badges, the price goes up) At this price, you can only get 5 keys a week (see comparisons to Fractal keys below, too)
Unsealed Box (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unsealed_Mist-Hardened_Lockbox) and drop rate research (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unsealed_Mist-Hardened_Lockbox/Drop_rate) comes to the conclusion (without super rare items) that the content are worth roughly between 9s and 11s, but the spread is big , because you can get T2-T5 materials (no T6) and  Memories of Battle and rare gear boxes are the only things worth more than a few silver.
Cracked Fractal inscriptions (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cracked_Fractal_Encryption/research) not only have a chance to give you a key, but the "junk items" in them contribute heavily to raw gold, making them worth around 45s according to the research page, which created a netto win of 15s for opening it with a key worth 30s + x. (Keys can be bought up to the quantity of 30 a day)

The real purpose of the wvw reward increases this year was just to take up more bag space for you to invest in additional bag slots/space. 🤔🤭

Mist hardened lockbox, Mist hardened lockbox key, bag of gear, grandmaster mark shard, drop often now that you have to stack them in your bags.

On top of all the other junk we need to carry, 3 levels of unidentified gear, siege, traps, disabler, 2 different emblems, legendary spike, tomes of knowledge, ornate rusted keys, permanent portable provisioner.

Hard not to feel disappointed with the lotto box of disappointments that has like 0.000001% top prize drop rate, and a then couple items for 20s to try and make up for the disappointment every once in a while.... which sadly only further reminds you how disappointing gw2 bag lottos are.

Basically this--you can solo a t1 fractal in about 20 min and make 1-2g if you get good encryption roll (or at least 1g just selling the boxes), but have to open 10x that amount with the WvW boxes lol

Both are like super low effort, but just goes in line with PvE > WvW for rewards.

The loot boxes and 8 gold weekly were a stopgap that were more or less abandoned when the Wizard's vault came out.

But I don't care about that. Make the damned keys a currency, or at least make it so you don't have to type to delete them.

Agree about inventory space. There's just too much junk being thrown at you for playing WvW. Organizing your inventory for 10 minutes isn't "fun".

That would basically be double the worth of everything I got in 11 years of WvW.
