Draxian.7945
Standard ping is 150-300, any instance or location with more than 30 players in one place spikes it to 3000+. Skills take 30s or more to activate. No packet loss, no holdups along the route. Quick search shows this has been a huge problem for well over a year now. What gives? 1

firedragon.8953
I play from JP and usually have about 190-230 ping (NA servers). Most of the time it's fine, including large events. This past month there seems to be worse lag spikes and constant "log-in server" errors popping up after logging in. Was terrible last week, this week seems a bit better, but not great. I had no problem 2-3 months ago. Edited November 20, 2023 by firedragon.8953

For the past few months it's been impossible for me to do world bosses and wvw. The SotO and EoD maps seem to suffer less, presumably because they have more resources than the older ones, but doing something like Teq is painful.

I tested a VPN before, but it didn't help lower my ping much at all. I heard from other players there seems to be a problem with routing to the Amazon servers. Whatever it is, I hope it gets better soon.

TheQuickFox.3826
Biggest problem for Asia is that the servers are located in USA and Europe. VPNs like NoPing and ExitLag may be worth a try but may very well make the situation worse as they can only work if the routing from your ISP to ArenaNet/AWS servers is sub-optimal. They cannot decrease the physical distance. Login server errors: I get them as well. These are usually internal server problems at the side of ArenaNet. Even when the error message blames your firewall or router. I have a great connection to GW2 servers, with pings usually between 30 and 45 and no disconnects but I still get error 42 messages that pop-up a lot on certain days. By the way: I'm a gamer of the old days. Used to play FPS games on dial-up. Pings of 200 to 300 were normal back then. Ofc, a ping of 500+ or even 3000 is totally unplayable.

Unfortunate, Exitlag does affect me in WvW, usually I have no lag while NA people do.

What gives? this is a very late reply, but i'm putting it here in case anyone still needs it: when you get increased latency only in intense situations (i.e with alot of players around), and your ping is normally decent, it usually means you're having a bandwidth issue, as during high-action events the data rates sent and received by the game skyrocket compared to solo play. when packets can't get delivered fast enough in either direction, the game starts to wait on them and this artificially increases your ping. this can be due to either low bandwidth on your connection at peak times, or some kind of queueing issue along the route (a clogged pipe, essentially). there's nothing that arenanet can do about this, as its either your internet provider, the amazon servers, or something inbetween them. this is very noticeable as everything will "speed up" like hyperspeed if you move to an area without as many players, and the game starts to finally catch up. if you contact support they can take you through some steps to find the problem, but they can't fix it unfortunately. i know the op says they have no problems along the route, but they might not have checked sustained high-bandwidth delivery?
