The mystery of "Pile of Pink Sand" and "Pile of Golden Sand"

I feel like these are for some secret that hasn't been discovered yet (after more than a year), or maybe they're just a remnant from something that didn't make it into the game.

An official answer would be appreciated. Until then, any theories?

Many oddities end up being tied to legendary collections. Since there are new legendary collections still in development, I would guess they are for one of those. Having a legendary weapon with a sand motif would seem likely given where the story is headed.

Or, who knows? Maybe they will be used in PoF, and slipped into the client early. It might have been decided it wasn't worth removing them, again, or even just overlooked.

Supposedly, Mystic Stone's clickable property got added around the same time.
