re-name and group all the dungeon, strike, raid, fotm, its TIME to do this

Recommended Posts

just use names like dungeon and raid cause those are well-known mmo names. and have a hub for it all and unify and interchange the currency. SELL and market it as a very complete package. you can never push and head far changing names each time and marketing " neww fractal" no one knows what youre talking about. doing this for sure will increase the % of current players playing this content. and more so, its much more attractive to capture new players with such a complete rebranding

story dungeon, historic dungeon, party raid, squad/guild raid

*cough* Trials, Duties, Criterion; not every MMO needs to use the same basic names for things

i mean, players have been complaining about all the redundant and superfluous systems for years, especially regarding difficulty and rewards. i think to this day it still doesn't make sense why they didn't just merge dungeons with fractals, raids with strikes and so on.

that's not to mention that all the icebrood saga strikes could've just been a raid wing, or forging steel could've been a raid wing, etc. then you have the whole thing with how convergences aren't strikes or raids or open-world but are also all of these things at the same time somehow.

(i won't get started on dragon response missions and how they weren't just strikes for some reason.)

You mean dungeons right since its 5 player escorting npc like alot of the dungeon explore paths.

i wish we could've just had a challenge mode to get rid of all that and go straight to the boss, especially with snowden drifts. also, technically shiverpeaks pass doesn't fit in as a strike mission and would be seen more as a fractal due to the jumping puzzle, and the boss only requiring a few players to beat.

Things are certainly better today than they were in the past. We have the entrances to all dungeons and fractals pretty much next to each other, with the raid hub just being around the corner. Only for strikes you need to go to the respective hub, so those are the only ones I see little room for improvement, but it would be very low on my priority list. Like VERY VERY low. And I certainly don't think that inventing new names would change anything, so it'd be a complete waste of ressources. And unifying currencies? Come on, do you really think dungeons and raids should give the same currency? You can already get a legendary armor for brain dead open world farming with SotO, no need to make raid armor available through story mode dungeon farm....

pretty much what they said.
I know what the differences in content is, I know where to find it, and where to look if I'm looking to find a group to get into it.
changing their names to be somthing more homogeneous would be more confusing for the average player, the differences between the different content is enough to warrant different names.

i will add: i do wish DRMs were a little more accessable (and maybe a little better named), I thought the content was fun, but outside of certain events like Rushes, i feel like no one ever plays it.

Appreciate you being sensitive with language, but you may very well refer to me as "he/him" 😉

About DRMs- the reason why you feel like no one ever plays them is probably because no one plays them 😉 Interesting you like them, but I fear not many feel alike (at least I and everyone I know are happy to be done with the associated achievements and never having to touch them again).

Anet has made positive changes to dungeons recently by creating a hub in LA (no more locked dungeons) and a single dungeon currency.

Another positive step would be to increase visibility over groups forming for dungeons in LFG. Currently a player has to click through every dungeon in LFG individually to see if a group is forming. That makes groups in LFG easy to overlook.

Fractals are organized by Tier, not by fractal, making it easy to spot parties forming even if it's not the exact fractal a player is looking for. This only perpetuates the perception that fractals are popular and that no one ever runs dungeons.

They are using these names -for appropriate content. Content differing from those is rightfully called as something else, whether it's strikes or fractals. I don't think it's complicated at all.

Maybe, not much issue here. Except they probably still prefer the "hub per expansion's content" approach and currently I wouldn't say it's a bad idea -although that's from the perspective of someone who has relevant hub portal scrolls in shared inv slots, so there's that.
In other words: whichever way this one particular thing goes, it doesn't really matter to me.

No, that's a bad idea. Different content having their own rewards is a good thing. Stop trying to make everything the same and providing everything for any minimal amount of gameplay and content cleared.

No, I don't think so. First of all, why unifying rewards under one currency would suddenly cause players to play MORE content? If anything it does the opposite.
Similarly to the "but new players!" claim. Players start playing the game and since they weren't exactly guided from npc to npc with quest lines, they don't know what to do. Since there is no gear treadmil, the question was... "what am I supposed to do and what's the point of doing anything?". Now your proposal is to take away more rewards from more content and put it all as some unified currency set of rewards. What it does isn't capturing new players, it's making them replay the same single easiest/fastest run to farm up currency for every reward, burn out and quit. Different rewards being put behind different content is what gives the new players the nudge to try other content. I'm convinced your idea is backwards and doesn't do what you claim it would do.

If someone doesn't know what a fractal is, they not only didn't read almost anything about the game, but also -probably more importantly- apparently didn't bother playing to lvl 80, because that's when the game tells them what a fractal is.
