Ale.3280
I remember when i can play rifle with power build on Engineer in PvP. Actually Engi rifle on PVP is rubbish. It's time to power it! come on, it's a RIFLE ---> more damage 🙂
Kuma.1503
I'm just going to say it before someone else does. "Absolutely not. This abomination needs to be gutted from PvP. We don't need brainless mecha 1111 spam. It's bad for the game. Ect. Ect. " Anyway. Rifle was arguably fine, if a bit on the weaker side. Then Anet pulled a goof by overbuffing it. When that resulted in a ****show, they overcorrected and gutted the damage on the AA lower than where the weapon started. This is a problem because the AA is the only significant source of ranged damage on the weapon. Everything else requires you to get up close and personal. And if you're getting up close in personal... Just run Sw/Shield or Hammer. You get similar if not better damage, and you also get evades/blocks/reflects. Plus nades are on 90% of builds, so the insignificant ranged damage rifle offers is obsolete. The weapon needs a rework. Like many other parts of engi's kit.
Luthan.5236
I still like it. I know it is not "meta" - but I am not good for top tier anyways. 😄 Playing rifle since day 1 in 2012 where I used it in PvE instead of the pistols (never really played them). Looong break from 2013 until 2019. Caught up in PvE and enjoyed the weapons of the other elite specs there. But in PvP? ... only core and rifle until the mecah got introduced. Then mecha + rifle (mech can do a bit damage as well). I like that skill 5 can be used for movement. 4 now at least does not give self knockback and can be useful to remove the movement impairing conditions. Toolkit for a bit defensive stuff (and the magneeeeets of course :D). And then moving between close and mid-range. Feels like a nice all-rounder weapon to me and I am just used to it too much. But yeah ... looking at the numbers as compared to any other weapon ... looks very small. (At least on the tooltip.) Even compared to mace. WingSwipe.3084
Having the triple tap AA wouldnt be a terrible idea. As long as the current damage numbers for the AA remains that is.

I like how this is a repeating story for many reworks on various professions.

It's not just core weapons, weaponmaster training should have come with a look over everything, especially with the SotO weapons coming out right after and how nutty some of them are, but Anet seems uninterested in doing so over just releasing new powercrept weapons to make the old ones obsolete. Not everything needs reworked necessarily, but if there were ever a time to check both weapon functionality and tuning, that was the time. Instead, rifle might get looked at 3 years down the line lol Edited July 25 by Shagie.7612
