calva.2914
Is Signet of The Locus a life siphon ability? So with the new life siphon relic I’ve been diving into what necro skills are life siphon. I found something a little odd. The skill signet of the locus. The skill says: Signet of the Locust Signet Passive: Your movement speed is increased. Signet Active: Strike and remove boons from nearby foes. Heal for each foe you strike and for each boon removed. Damage.png Damage: 266 (1.0)? Healing.png Healing per Hit: 1,500 (0.6)? Healing.png Healing per Boon Removed: 645 (0.1)? Signet of the Locust.png Signet of the Locust: +25% Movement Speed Miscellaneous effect.png Boons Removed: 2 Miscellaneous effect.png Movement Speed Increase: 25% Number of targets.png Number of Targets: 5 Radius.png Radius: 600 — In-game description Now, nowhere in the description does it say life siphon. Just says healing per hit and healing per boon removed. Also on the wiki if you go to life stealing and filter by necromancer this skill does not show up. Butttt if you click show notes at the bottom there is a lot of notes about many items and skills. Surprising, signet of the locus shows up in these notes as life siphon. Also when you look specifically at Signet of the locus and the history of how it has changed with patch notes it actually does specify life siphon amounts. What do you guys think. Does this skill have life siphon or is it like the tool tip says and it’s just regular healing? Edited August 20 by calva.2914
calva.2914
I just noticed it does show up when you filter life stealing by necro. Never mind then. I guess it is life stealing even though the skill doesn’t specify it.

Lahmia.2193
No. Mechanically speaking it isn't classified as Life steal. The skill can crit and is negated by damage immunity skills. I think he's talking about the mechanics of life stealing vs a skill that does damage + heal. They are mechanically different. 1
KrHome.1920
The skill literally called Life Siphon (Dagger2) isn't a life steal when you assume that life steals can't crit (Blood Magic traits, Signet of Vampirism, Locust Swarm) and ignore damage immunities like Endure Pain (Warrior). To make it even more stupid: Sigil of Leeching has the mechanics above, but in contrast to the mentioned skills does not scale with power and healing power. Only ANet is capable of confusing its players this hard with their spaghetti coded mechanics that lack any consistency. I haven't experimented with the new relic because of these reasons. No one knows what works and what doesn't without testing every single skill.

Does the damage component deal critical damage? If not it's a life siphon. Pretty sure it was a life siphon "historically". Anyway, the devs choose what's a life siphon or not, it's up to them not up to us. Edited August 25 by Dadnir.5038

The traited version does do life stealing though. As for life stealing the general rule of thumb for telling is 'can it crit?' and 'can it go through regular damage reduction?' DeceiverX.8361
Up until I stopped playing in 2022 or so, I ran it from 2014. It's been a siphon that entire time.
Markus.6415
The real question here is, what skills does Relic of Atrocity affect? I guess.

From my testing, I got the following. Note, this is only for Necromancer skills. Works with Atrocity: Vampiric (self and minion strikes) Vampiric Aura (only players with relic get increase, regardless of who is supplying the aura) Augury of Death Signet of Vampirism passive Signet of Vampirism active Locust Swarm Soul Grasp Hungering Malestrom Soul Shards Sigil of Leeching Sigil of Blood Doesn't work with Atrocity: Signet of the Locust Life Siphon Blood Fiend Sword autos Path of Gluttony/Gorge Unknown: Sigil of Draining (sigil doesn't work in golem testing) Ultimately, can't say I'm too surprised. I think from this, you can extrapolate out to other effects in the game and how they'll behave.
