GW2 Surveys

Recommended Posts

Why does this game not have player feedback surveys?  I think I remember one a long time ago that they conducted a survey (maybe in 2013?).  A lot of people don't go on the forums so there is a huge swath of the playerbase whose opinion is unknown.  I think it might help the dev's/management to conduct surveys and give out some in-game rewards for participating in them aside from just using the official forums as a source of player opinion.

They did indeed conduct player surveys many many years ago… however, most of the information they received was ignored, and according to the devs player participation in surveys was actually lower than player interaction on the forums.

that said… they really should bring the in-game surveys back during Beta weekends… they are a great way to gather directed feedback during betas.

as for giving rewards for participation in surveys… NO. Absolutely not. Putting a reward on it simply encourages interaction, it does not lead to useful feedback at all. Infact, if every survey gave a reward and lead to a guaranteed change, we would actually see A LOT of bad changes happen simply because people made random selections in a survey to get a reward.

Likely still do. And for some people the problem with random surveys is they didn't get chosen... as they are random.

They do… the real problem with random surveys though, is that they are only useful to get a general sense of a communities opinion… when you need more directed and immediate information it is better to perform a live directed survey.

In a game this means performing in-game surveys during beta events and directed at players who participate in specific content pertaining to the surveys.

I've received surveys, though not recently, and seen my responses reflected in the game's development.

In general I think that surveys of this type are a decent idea as long as the devs have the willingness to ignore specifics while looking for patterns.

I'm not sure I'd make a good game dev; personally I don't see the point in asking players for their opinions. What players say they want almost never reflects what would actually be good for the game and keep them coming back and playing. When players get what they think they want, 90% of the time they just go "cool" and get about five minutes of joy out of it, then forget about it

They do - I got one that was later than 2013 - not sure when I received it though. It is per mail and I guess not for all players. (Only randomly some selected players. And t hen you are not supposed to talk about it - sharing the questions and stuff - at least when it is active.)
