Please introduce Gen 3 underwater weapons

Recommended Posts

Yes, this has been requested in the achieved JW thread.

Create three new achievements, one related to each underwater weapon. Not only would you need the weapon, you would need all the skins to get the achievement.

For skins alone, each one removes 75 gold in direct costs from the economy, as well as removing gold indirectly (e.g. through materials required for research notes).

All for the one-off cost of producing 3 new weapons + their skins, and adding them to Levias. Plus adding the weapons to the back-end. The fragments etc would be the same graphic. The draw, footfall, death blow effects seem to be the same for each weapon in a skin set, so maybe this isn't much of a cost to add?

The gen 3s are my favourite skins, and I remain sad that my chosen aesthetic doesn't work with the land spears. Some of us spend a lot of time making our characters look "just right" and the inability to do this, particularly now that spears are land weapons too, means that one part of "just right" may not exist - on weapon swap, for example.

I am suggesting doing all three, just in case the other two underwater weapons become land weapon options sometime in the future.

Rather have a underwater leg. headset and leg. infusion , grinding for having somle of those +9Ar +5 stat is horrendous

if they really wanna touch underwater rather also make a whole new weapon for each class , cause currently classes have only two option and ele + engi just one...

What you ask will be done if trident or harpoon launcher become also land weapon , but i doubt it , those two as land weapon would be comical.

I just love that players went from "delete underwater content from the game" to "pleaseee give us underwater weapon skins" be careful what you wish for.

You weren't clearly paying attention (again). Some players wanted to have underwater content removed, sure, but at the same time many were asking for Anet to improve it. And yes, start again including underwater skins to the weapon sets. Legendary breather was something that was asked for on a frequent basis, for example.

Oh look another fan, I don't remember you from anywhere, you've wrongfully disagreed with me on what else... ? I'm kidding, I don't care to know.

I do love the vast majority of spears around have no particle effects, I'm so comfortable with that I use it to keep me warm at night.

Just in case...

I wouldn't. ArenaNet already confirmed months ago that they will NOT be retroactively adding old skins for spears. That means they also will not be making gen 3 underwater weapons.

It's no biggie because I can sell them later. Things change and even if it's incredibly unlikely, I'm happy to accumulate and see.

Why is harpoon gun on land comical? Harpoon guns on land would be absolutely awesome, they're used out of water just as much as they're used in water in the real world, if not more. By the way, what do you do with all the time you save abbreviating "legendary"?

considering 95% of players probably spend less then 5% of time underwater it doesn't seem like a good use of resources.

It's like the argument for removing Twilight Arbor Forward Up path.

Devs: "we did it, because almost noone was doing it"

Players: "hey, we weren't doing it because it was bugged in a way that made it way too painful to most, all you had to do was to fix the bugs"

Sure, players don't spend too much time underwater, because Anet's not exactly creating any new underwater content, since veeeeeery long ago. Nor are they balancing/fixing/tuning the underwater combat systems. Basically, it's hard to play something that barely exists.

Was that the path with the oil escort and fire? It was removed?

I do think it would be neat if they added gen3 versions of newly added land weapons. The gen3 legendaries are the only uniform set of legendaries that follow the same theme, with the same skin variants for each weapon. I wouldn't mind even if it was some low effort model (like taking gen3 staff and just giving it a sharper top part for spear - or for harpoon gun if that gets a land version in the future, altering the rifle model slightly. Trident would be trickier, but could also use staff model as base and just alter the top). The gen3 skins are quite popular, and feels bad when you like having the same skin theme for your weapons but can't when your build uses spear on weapon swap.

Snip

No that one was the lvl 80 one they introduced instead if it.

The one removed was the third lvl 55 path, that ended with a tree and infinite spawning spiders.

This. Anet decided the final instance was too easy, so they redesigned it, and caused a bug where tree ended up spawning uncapped amount of spiders (on a very fast spawn rate). Spiders did not despawn after wipe, so you either burned the tree in first burst, or you were unable to finish dungeon.

Hint: that was before the later power creep, so maybe 1% of the players were able to burst the tree fast enough.

that's my 5cent about it , will feel for me as a cheap rifle rip off , but considering how the game goes it would be an option.

And what's the fuss with abreviation ? you have difficulties distinguishing the word leg body part with "leg." an abreviation (even put a dot for slow brainers)

And what i do with my spare time is none of your business , but as you are so eager to know : atm ("at the moment" , just for you) i am responding to a stupid statement which has nothing to do with the subject .  You want the definition and the purpose of the word abbreviation , i can add the definition of the word leg to it too as you seems having trouble with it.

See i can do the smart a** too...

We did just get the darkspear staff skin as a spear skin so maybe there's hope for them to change course on the black lion skins.

I'd love to see them add those skins but I can't see it happening.

They didn't have to create the darkspear staff skin it already existed for staff. Now I don't know what work was required to add it as a spear skin but I can't imagine it was that much work.

In contrast they'd have to create black lion spear skins from scratch.

Yes to everything you said.  I'll even expand on why I think it's a good idea to add "underwater" Aurene weapons.

1. They are by far the cheapest development wise to mass produce and the variations are some of the easiest additions on top to develop.

2. "Underwater" weapons are sorely lacking skins. Spear has also become the only universally used land weapon. Offering players an additional legendary is great value here.

3. If Aurene gen3 underwater weapons require EoD and JW, it creates a great incentive for players to purchase both expansions. Sorry but that's a great incentive to tap into as developer

4. With no gen2 or gen3 underwater weapons available this slot is very lacking in regards to legendary access. The new spear mitigates this somewhat but even with it there is a gap in casebof land and underwater weapons being used. As much as 4 are needed if swaping between spear is being used on land and underwater and the only option to get this many is with crafting the gen1 spear multiple times.

So yes, this should be on the to do list for developers maybe even as "secret" here have this on top release.

It does make me wonder how long ahead they think about expansion additions to the game. Did they not realise they would be adding spear as a land-based weapon in their second expansion after EoD?

End of Dragons release date: 18 Feb 2022.

Janthir Wilds release date: 20 August 2024. That's only two years (I'm ignoring SoTO as it didn't change spear use.)
