Hero Points: WvW?

Hi All,

Returning player here. How effective is it to obtain HP during WvW and how is it done? Thank you in advance!

It's very easy. Capture objectives or kill enemy players, gain WXP gaining you a Chest of the Mists every time you rank up, and buy Testimonies of Heroics in each skirmish chest from your pips. You can then turn in testimonies to the hero point NPC to complete Crystal Desert or Heart of Maguuma hero challenges.

Ranking up in wvw, or opening skirmish chests from the pip reward system will grant you an item called Testimony of Heroics.Use that item to purchase scrolls of heroics via the Heroics Notary vender at each spawn location.

Central Tyria scrolls of heroics will complete 1 random hero challenge in the base game's maps, a scroll of maguuma heroics will complete 1 random hero challenge on HoT's maps, and a scroll of desert heroics will complete 1 random hero challenge on HoT's maps.

The base game's hero challenges grant 1 hero point, the expansions each grant 10 -- so as such the base game's scolls will cost 1 Testimony of Heroics whilst the expansions will each cost 10 ToHs.

Its worth it if you prefer to just play wvw, or want to unlock hero points on alts without having to do map completion -- but if you don't wvw much its much quicker to unlock the hero points in pve, especially on expansion maps where the hero challenges are worth 10 points each.

Question: Is there some sort of strategy on what to spend your heroics on? For instance, would it be wise to just unlock the 1 point randoms from the vendor instead of the HP from either the desert or verdent brink if you plan to eventually do those anyways and they give back 10 points or 30 respectfully upon completion?

They don't give back points. If you don't have a specific HP in HoT for example then using the heroic will flag a random HP as complete for that character. However, if you have actually obtained all the HP's you can in HoT, Tyria, or PoF and go to use the Herioc to convert to HP's then all that will happen is they will be put back into your wallet as Heroics.

If you use heroics to unlock a HP then you don't get the XP that you would have from completing it normally. Saving the expansion HP's to complete normally on the map would make grinding mastery XP a little easier. Not necessarily a big deal, but worth considering.
