Vinny.5624
Hiya folks,Just started the game and I'm really loving it so far. I started a necro and have no idea how to get a minion. I asked in game and they said I have to train in it. How do I do that? When i'm on the Hero page, I see the pet blanked out and when I try to press it nothing happens. What am I doing wrong??Thanks! Chamelion.9536
Nothing wrong. By training you have to level up, and as you do, new skills become available to you. In time you'll gain new minions, spells and so on. Just a matter of leveling, and they will open up for you.Edit: Also, welcome to the game! Randulf.7614
What level are you? It is possible you aren't high enough level yet to unlock the trait system and have the tutorial

smsarasin.3468
As you level up your character, you will unlock skills and abilities. Here's a guide that may help a bit. dulfy.net/2014/06/30/gw2-necromancer-pve-guide-by-spoj/
Danikat.8537
As other people said what you need to do is level up.As you gain levels you'll also get Hero Points which can be spent to unlock skills and traits (passive skill lines basically). Levelling from 1-80 will get you enough Hero Points to unlock all the core skills and trait lines. You can get more from Hero Challenges in the open-world, which can either be used to train your core skills and traits sooner or to train your Elite specialisation once you get to level 80. Tanner Blackfeather.6509
To be more specific regarding your question of minions: At lvl 11 you'll unlock your Utility skills (starting with skill slot 7). When you do that, you can start spending Hero Points to get skills - one line of skills you can buy are minions. Also, never ever fear spending Hero Points. As has been noted above, you get enough points just by leveling to unlock all your base skills and traits (those starting somewhere in the 20s, iirc). Hero Challenges you complete add extra hero points, letting you unlock things "ahead of time".Since they are on top of your regular leveling points, you'll create a surplus of points at 80 by doing Hero Challenges as you level. These can then be used to "jump start" your Elite Specialization, but that's really a later thing. Just remember that there is no way to "waste" points! Taygus.4571
I noticed you mentioned "pet" in hero panel .I'm not sure where you seen that but the only class with pets is ranger.Minions will not show in your hero panel. They are simply skills that you will unlock as you level and learn them. The game will tell you about it when you get to that point. (For example in Elder Scrolls Online sorcerers can summon demons from the plane of Oblivion, and people call them pets too.)I'm guessing the OP is looking at the Build tab of the Hero panel. Even at level 2 you can see all your utility skills. If you hover the mouse over them they light up and if you click it they flash briefly, but it doesn't actually do anything. Unhelpfully there's not actually anything on that tab to tell you why you can't use any of the skills. The Training tab just says Required Level: 11, and since you can't even look at it until then it's not clear the two are related.I guess Anet thought players wouldn't worry about it, maybe not even look at the Build tab until they'd unlocked their first utility slot. Vinny.5624
The confusing thing is, I saw a level 9 Necro running around with minions, I tried asking him how he got them, but no response. I'm level 10 now and still minionless lol.

The character you saw is actually higher level than 9, but the location you were in had a max level of 9.It's a system that was put in place so that a level 80 doesn't go into the starter areas and literally take 0 damage from everything and one-shot the bosses with a weak attack. Basically, keeps the game more fun for everyone.
Airdive.2613
Or maybe you're talking about miniatures. In that case, they are purely cosmetic creatures that follow your character around.

The number displayed on your nameplate then shows your mastery progression.
mercury ranique.2170
Each timeyou level up you get a reward, but also a window that tells you about the new things you unlocked. Read it and in a few levels it will come to you.

But there are a few requirements.A character that is level 80 (you have to use a lvl 80 to do the grind.)Own PoF.Do the storyline of PoF.Doing the storyline of PoF will unlock raptor, springer, skimmer. Jackal and Griffon are optional. Griffon in addition will cost 250 gold.To train your mount, a character at lvl 80 will start to earn XP towards what is known as mastery points. These points are based in what part of Tyria you are in (as based on when the map was introduced.) There is Tyria, Heart of Thorns, and Path of Fire. Mount training is all Path of Fire so you'll have to play in those areas to gain PoF xp.In addition to XP you'll also have to grind/earn/play for what is known as Mastery Points. These too are map region specific.Once you have mounts unlocked, even your starting lvl 2 character (as you can't use mounts in the lvl 1 starter area) can ride on mounts.
