Smiggles.6823
Hi guys,When I log in I sometimes get the message about the dragon mini in exchange for signing up for sms security. What I want to know is: does the player get charged for this?Or does Anet wear the cost of sending the security sms? Illconceived Was Na.9781
ANet is not going to pay for your SMS. However, ANet only asks that you add a second security check, aka 2-factor authentication; they don't care if you use SMS or something else. WinAuth and Google Authenticator are both fine, for example.
Illconceived Was Na.9781
From the Support SiteTwo-Factor (Mobile) Authenticationhttps://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/230428927-Guild-Wars-2-Account-SecurityWith e-mail authentication in place, you can further protect your account by setting up two-factor authentication on your game account. This system will challenge any game log-in attempt from a new location, and you’ll be required to approve access using a code provided through your mobile device before you can get into the game.If your e-mail provider offers two-factor authentication, you might consider adding it to your e-mail account, as well. You can enable two-factor authentication for Guild Wars 2 on the official website at My Account > Security.Quick Tip: Add Two-Factor Authentication for an extra layer of security.Securing Your Account With AuthenticationHow do I get authentication on my account? What types of authentication are available?SMS AuthenticationThis type of authentication sends your security code as a text or voice message to a cell phone or a land line, but alternative services like Skype or Google Voice won’t work. See our article on SMS Authentication for more informationAuthenticator AppThis type of authentication uses an app on a device such as a cell phone or tablet to deliver your security code. Google Authenticator is the most popular app that works with Guild Wars 2, but you can use any app which supports the TOTP/OATH standard (IETF RFC 6238). See our article on the Authenticator App for more information. What if I have problems getting authentication to work, or need to remove it from my account? Please see our help article for SMS Authentication or the Authenticator App.
Danikat.8537
Do you normally have to pay to receive SMS messages? If not then no, it will be free.I'm in the UK and the messages come from a US number but even then they're free for me. Obviously I have to pay for my phone contract, or I wouldn't be able to receive any messages at all, but I don't get charged extra for them and they don't count towards my free message limit (which is what I'd expect since that's for messages I send out). It's a really simple system to use - when you log into the game from a new IP address you get an additional window on the launcher to put a code in - at the same time the code is sent to your phone and all you need to do is type that code into the window and click 'submit'. There's an option to save the network, if you trust it, so you don't have to do it every single time. Honestly the hardest part for me is finding my phone so I can get the code.
