A.E.D. and healing matrix trait

The point of AED is to take leathal damage and a get a huge heal out of it, however this becomes more dificult with healing matrix because it applies the barrier before the AED heals you(while its waiting to see if you take leathal damage). This seems counter productive, would be it possible to have the barrier applied when AED actually heals you?

There's a lot of traits that interact poorly with AED.

  • Automatic elixir S -- If you're getting spiked down, you want to activate AED, but typically Elixir S will stop you midway and kill you.
  • Heat Therapy on holos. If you're trying to trigger AED, you may intentionally overheat, but this means you lose access to heat therapy, so you'll lose out on that heal. Using PBM makes it less likely to trigger the lethal damage... so it's a catch 22.
  • Reconstruction Enclosure and Cleansing Synergy reduce your damage and heal you when you use AED, making it less likely for you to take lethal damage.
  • Automated Medical Response may trigger when you have AED active, using it again will waste the first heal.

A few solutions:

  • Give AED a longer window of time to interact. 5 seconds is rarely enough time to consistently trigger it.
  • Give the failed AED a better heal so it doesn't have to compete as badly with HT.

Unfortunately, if you run AED you need to run traits that largely support high damage/burst. It is a heal that pretty much baits your foe to keep pressing the attack when you have a 12k heal up your sleave.

To go along with that, you also need to avoid traits that remove conditions, apply protection, proc invulnerability, or apply barrier. I am ok with that, because it is a skill with a very specific purpose and supports the selection of other traits. In your case, as a Scrapper, that would be Perfectly Weighted (damage/sustain) or Shocking Speed (mobility/sustain).

With all of that said, I definitely feel the heal could be a bit better (14k and / or better healing power scaling) given the risk/reward ratio of this skill. Other classes have 9-10k heals with the same recharge and no drawback requiring a death blow.

We could make it a "Mantra" that auto deploys as long as it has been cast? 1.5 cast time, cooldown 30.

Or it could Consume all defensive boons (granting you a copy after it activates) and deactivate defensive cooldowns while active, allowing you to use those cooldowns and boons after you "die".

An auto-deploying mantra like that would be a massive, massive buff that many in the PvP community would find incredibly irritating (as would I, no passive should be that powerful). As much as I'd like something that powerful, that's excessive (people complain about Elixir S auto-trigger, so this would go over like a lead balloon). It would simply be better if it had a longer window of time for the lethal blow.

By concept, this skill could no have initial heal, but follow the steps:

  • 1) Initial Skill: The AED its energized and waits the lethal hit to heals. If no lethal hit ocours, no heal.

  • 2) Secondary Skill: The AED energy could be redirected, before the lethal hit ocours, to another usage that heals, removes conditions and breaks stun (making reference to severals electic and electromagnetic medical treatments like tDCS and TMS).

  • Tool Belt Skill) Electrify: The AED energizes the weapon and armor, granting electric aura and making the next hit inflicts stun.
