It's Time to Re-work Axe as a Melee Power Oriented Weapon

I love the idea of a ranged axe, but it basically sucks outside of tagging and CA generation for raids. Additionally, it really can't be made with great utility because doing so wouldn't fit thematically with the idea of a ranger. Here me out on this. Think of the Mesmer axe, and how good of a weapon it is. Thematically, they can summon clones and do all crazy types of shit, as is their class. So when it comes to making the Mesmer axe a good weapon, there's a lot of imagination to be played with. If the ranger axe was left as a ranged weapon and buffed while still being thematically true, it would just be a numbers change, which is quite boring, for how else could they adjust it? Throw an axe, throw multiple axes, throw an axe while inflicting multiple conditions etc...

So that is why it is time to re-work the axe entirely and make it the counterpart to the ranger sword. Now, what is the ranger's swords purpose? It is a fast, evasive, mobile weaponset. Therefore, the axe ought to be slower and more powerful.

Here are the skill suggestions I make.

Autoattack One - Cleave - Cleave foes in front of you, gaining might for each one struck. 130 Range, 1/2s cast time. 4 seconds might, one stack per opponent struck, 3 target limit. Power scales about 20% higher than Slash on the sword.Autoattack Two - Assault - Cleave foes in front of you again, inflicting vulnerability. 130 Range, 1/2s cast time, 4 seconds vulnerability, one stack per opponent struck, 3 target limit. Power scales about 20% higher than Slash on the sword.Autoattack Three - Break - Break foes in front of you, dealing heavy damage. 130 Range, 3/4s cast time, 3 target limit. Power scales about equal to Slice on the Greatsword.Skill Two - Melandric Charge - Charge your foe, dealing additional damage per boon on them. 450 Range, animation is similar to Brutal Charge when used in Beastmode except you strike them with your axe, not your foot. 3/4s cast time, one target limit. Power scales about 10% less than Maul on the Greatsword. Deal an extra 5% damage per boon on foe for a maximum damage boost of 20%. 8 second recharge time.Skill Three - Melandric Riposte - Strike all nearby foes, pushing them back. 225 Range, 200 knockback. Animation is similar to Tail Swipe when used in Beastmode except your strike nearby foes with your axe, not your foot. 1/2s cast time, 3 target limit. Power scales about equal to swoop on the Greatsword. 15 second recharge time.

No. Every MH weapon on ranger has a specific role.Axe is mid to close ranged more condi heavy weapon.Sword is melee and utility heavy weapon.Dagger is melee condi.

What i would do to improve them:Axe:AA: Make it faster, more fluid. Change the animation to something similar to guard zealots defense (sword 3). Gain might when hitting a foe. Both get bleed if the axe does ricochet (similar to DH longbow AA).Split blade: More narrow cone to hit more targets on a bit higher range.Wintersbite: AoE baseline.Optional: Icefield on Wintersbite for more combo possibilities, better snaring and interaction with power spec lines.Trait should give precision per axe wielded and shouldnt be a GM.

IMPORTANT: unsplit the dmg modifier so in PvE it gets better hybrid cappabilities.

Sword:All AA attacks should hit 3 targets.Hornet sting should be made a movement skill that changes direction depending where you are stearing. So its basically a weaponskill dodge roll you can aim. This way it can be used as a gap closer or a defensive tool.Evade frame should start at animation and end with ut bith with no delay, so it is more convenient to use and to counter.

Striders Defense: Trait should affect all evades regardless if you are wielding a sword or not.

Poisonmaster: This trait should apply poison everytime you apply cripple->instant sword condi weapon. And nice interactions in between lines + improved dagger and SB.

Dagger MH:D2: Should apply heavy poison and the next attack of your pet dazes. This would give bonus from twice as vicious and nuce recovery from predators cunning.D3: Should be an evade for obvious reasons.

Predators Cunning: Should have a higher power coefficient so you can utilize dagger as a power weapon whith this trait or just improve burst on sword.If the life steal could crit would be interesting too to discuss.

It is a fact that ranger has arbitrarely weird MH characteristics but i think the class could benefit more from changing weapon behaviour via traits (not making them plain out better but improving certain aspects of power or condi).This gives build flexibility and more freedom of choice for builds.

Eh. Give me instead:

Ricochet - Add "Bleeds weakened foes for (3s)" to synergize with Winter's Bite and Wilting Strike (for some trait/weapon synergy in Beastmastery).Split Blade - Tweaked to be a single cone that strikes foes once and bleeds them with 5 stacks like Scourge's Harrowing Wave (Torch 4). Gets rid of the shotgun design. Reduce the range down to 600 to keep it in check. Combine the direct damage from all 5 attacks into 1 as part of the change and rebalance bleed durations if necessary.Winter's Bite - AoE effect from Honed Axes made baseline. Reduce the radius to 180 to keep this in check for a later suggestion (read below).

Lastly, since the AoE effect on Winter's Bite from Honed Axes becomes baseline, substitute the effect on the trait to, "Winter's Bite and Path of Scars become ammo skills. +1 ammo count." Gives both main and off-hand axe something and, yeah, would be pretty neat.

We dont need another melee weapon and less ranged lol. Just use one of the others.GS Sword Daggers they all have thier place.
