Does wintrading occur regularly in ranked PvP?

They'll do it again next season. At this point I've lost count how many times they've been ~dishonored~. If Arenanet had a spine maybe they would have a competitive pvp scene instead of dead one.

This is how a real company handles match fixing.https://liquipedia.net/starcraft2/2015_Match-Fixing_Scandal

They weren't no names either, check their records.https://liquipedia.net/starcraft2/Lifehttps://liquipedia.net/starcraft/SAviOr

Yes, we should put wintraders in prison. That's how anet should handle wintrading, or people having a meltdown in a match and wasting 15 minutes of someone's time. That Scandal was so serious because of the financial aspects of it and that it was competitive in a much different way. They were trying to make money off of their manipulation. Most people would call someone w ho was just a bad player a wintrader and be done with them.

See that is beautiful how a company actually cares about it's players and that's what i miss about starcraft is that the punishment for cheaters who wasted the time of others were punished correctly.

Anet : Lets give a writ slap of 3 months to a person who has win traded and likely has been doing it for a few seasons. That sounds legit for wasting hours and hours and hours and hours of the combined people they have screwed over.

So sad there is no backbone to actually ban people permanently who deserve it. just " hey you bad bad person, go sit in the corner for 3 months" "Oh and don't worry just make a free account to use for those 3 months".

You can't fault the players when the system is subject to abuse and can mean different things to different people. Some people view the ranking system as a way to measure their PVP prowess, others view the ranking system as a means to get a PVE reward only (be it a title or item), some don't give a crap about the ranking system at all, etc. In a PVP model, the focus should always be maximizing the mental and emotional stimulation players have interacting with one another in a competitive environment. A secondary component to that is you need an audience for combatants to fuel their ego (e.g., roman coliseum, televised NBA game, Hunger Games, etc.) Once you strike that balance is when the mode becomes self-sustaining and can grow into an eSports. A ranking leaderboard does not represent these things and is instead some twisted amalgamation of PVE and PVP concepts.

Events in a match yesterday:
  • Got home
  • ally runs back to home and sits afk
  • Ally moves off point slightly and afk's
  • Home node starts flipping, no indications of players on the mini as there are when players are in combat
  • ally still afk next to home point while its flipped to enemy team, has taken no damage at all.
  • Another ally runs back to home to cap, swearing in team chat.
  • Afk player runs towards mid and dies
  • Afk player returns back to our home node and proceeds to repeat this cycle.

Not sure if bad player or win trading.

That's the million dollar question. Did that guy get tackled by a puma irl and was fighting for his life or did he personally know the other player?

I'm beginning to think that players with multiple PCs in their house, and who own multiple accounts, are just running bots programmed to perform easy match manipulation tactics. This way, they don't need to tell a single other player that they are doing it. The bot ques same time they do, if bot lands on other team, he lets the bot do it's programmed job of standing AFK off a home node, or some cycle of walking to mid to die. If it lands ON his team, it simply DCs and prevents point lose. Pretty much guaranteed rating gain by playing 1 or 2 games a day. The only risk is having run ins with larger manned wintrade teams. But as someone stated earlier in this thread, there is a difference between wintrading and just some guy throwing or self manipulating matches.

From what I understand, there are only 2 or 3 groups in division, that run serious win trade mechanics. The rest of them are performing smaller match manipulations and keep it hush hush from even their friends.

I could believe it was bots...

Don't know about wintrading per se, but every single qual match I've played so far this season has featured blatant match manipulation (going afk, running in circles, suiciding on enemy zerg), sometimes also taunting teammates about it in chat. Match manipulation is a constant plague in ranked.

This wouldn't be an issue if matchmaking was TIGHTER (ie; plat only plays vs plat, gold vs gold, etc. no exceptions.) but right now, with matches being put together with players all over the spectrum, its really impossible to know.

Well throwing is not the same as wintrading. Where is the line drawn? If you hate an ally who verbally abused you and you refuse to participate in anything that benefits him, is that wintrading? How much participation is needed to clear a player from being banned?

If you afk and throw the game because you're getting verbally abused, you deserve to get banned. Either just grow a thicker skin or block him. Don't ruin the game for three other players trying to win.

Goes both ways, if you cannot lose in a video game without throwing a temper tantrum and being verbally abusive to someone, behind a screen on top of all, you're just as weak willed.

The Night Fox summed it up perfectly by giving the player the benefit of the doubt, he was being tackled by a puma irl, it happens lol

Completely false.

Yes maybe this is false but the poll is asking whether or not win trading occurs often. To say it happens on the reg is false.

It doesn’t happen regularly, but it also isn’t a fiction. Wintrading occurs and I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

Well, if a player is playing for the gold/ other rewards, and a guy that wants the prestige end-season item offers a substantial ammount, that person might accept. Especially if in same guild or in known circles.Doesn't really need to be a close friend.
