Ectoplasm going down?

Is anyone else worried about the fact that the price of ecto is going down? It seems everyday I log on it's down a silver!

Actually I have been seeing a decline in my salvage rates this past 3-4 weeks.. RNG yeah, but I cant believe my luck is that bad..EDIT - it's bad most days, but not the kind of bad I am getting with Ectos at the moment.

Everywhere..I never buy any rares from TP.. no point when they drop so freely from practically anything in game.

It's almost like, the devs attracted the biggest launch crowd in the history of MMOs by selling players on a game with no grind, dishonestly switched to a new grindy gear tier literally weeks after launch, causing players to feel betrayed and leave immediately, or leave later in frustration at the grind they didn't sign up for, until finally the devs admitted that was a completely idiotic decision, and released an expansion which much more commonly rewards all the mats which made said gear tier grindy in the first place.

Ok. I only asked because I think they reduced the salvage rates for those from POF maps.

One of the recent patches lowered the rate of ectos given by salvaging. So, that SHOULD stabilize the price. However, it's still in freefall.

Anyone can see on spidy that daily highs and lows have been stable since March. There will be slightly more volatility as the market tries to find a new equilibrium after the Elonian weapon nerf, but the trend is upward.

It's been a very long time since somebody uttered "ecto" and "important" in the same sentence..

It's essentially useless besides for forging clovers and those are only useful for legendaries (and have a dozen other means of acquisition, albeit slower)

And that's where the main "issue" is to be honest. I enjoy that they aren't a huge gate, but they are just another crafting material and nothing else. Their price is around the same as any other rare material and I think that's a pretty good spot for them to be at.

It dropped when s4e1 came out from an already lower than normal number of PoF coming out and large increase in player base = more rares so more ecto's in the market. Been about the same price since then with those farms added to the rotation of options to make gold. Unless that changed salavge rates (again) or nurf the farms I don't see ecto's going up in price again. Of course they could add another huge long time sink, but it'd have to be pretty huge to even move the ecto market a few silver at this point.

Well, the drop rate, but another reason....a lot of players don't really have a big use for ectos anymore, For the stuff we do need them for, even someone who only does world bosses will have enough with no need to purchase any from the tp.

Need Exotic armor? Buy it on the tp

Trinkets? Get ascended from Lw3 or buy with Laurel s

Need to make a Mystic Forge weapon? You don't use ectos for anything else so you'll have enough

Yeah no. The pseudo-socialist paradise where wealth was meaningless and status didn't exist was as boring as watching grass grow. They released a grind because, turns out, people care about steady growth and inequality, and otherwise the economy would've perished from a lack of demand. Then, the supply and demand of various materials were adjusted carefully over several years and multiple expansions. Even now, the low price of goods means, by contrast, that gold itself is really valuable. Most games have the opposite problem, where inflation skyrockets the price of everything.

If there is truly a problem with oversupply of Ectos, then more sinks will be added. Just like what happened with leather.

Are these prices what's standard on the EU server? Insta-buy on ectos has been holding pretty steady at around 15-16 silver on NA during off-peak hours.

TP is global (except China) - no separation between NA and EU.

Talk about revisionist history and interpreting events to fit your own personal pet theory.

People were leaving Guild Wars 2 BEFORE ascended items were introduced. The two biggest complaints were no end game and not having anything to grind for. People got max gear and left. Anet added a new tier of gear to try to keep people in the game. Some people did leave over that, but people were leaving before as well. I doubt very much you could prove that that decision cost the game players over all.

After that the prices of ectos remained stabil or high for years. They didn't really start coming down until multi-loot. Saying that Anet is acknowledging an old problem, and admitted anything is completely wrong. A better, or at least more plausible interpretation of why ecto prices went down originally is because HoT wasn't as popular as the devs thought it was going to be, and it had a lot of resistence coming out, so they left the multiloot in to keep people in the game farming/grinding, which was originally how ecto prices started to come down.

More recently, the game's economist John Smith left the game, and since than, many of the mats, including mats not used in ascended weapons, went down in price.

Season 4 did a lot of harm to this market by literally making it rain Unidentified Rare Gear.But for me, i bypass the RNG and just sell them unused

It has been going down for a loooong time now. It has been a bad investment if you bought stacks of it. On the other hand, if you invested in cash, you have a lot of additional purchasing power now.

Ummmmm ectoplasm has been down. When I started 2 years ago, ectos was close to 40 silver a piece. But someone already told me it was higher. But yea ever since pof, ectos really have dropped down. But so have many other mats, including leather. Leather use to be an arm and a leg. Now it’s like pssssssh buy,buy,buy! For it to come back up? Idk. Make the drop rate harder to get for salvaging.
