Keeping or not materials

Recommended Posts

So that's something that has been bothering me for quite a lot ... I have around 350 total in the game ... I have gathered A LOT of materials ... So my question here is if it's better to sell them for Gold or to keep them in order to craft a Legendary in the future ... What's better ?

Personally, I never sell materials (anymore). Even if you don't use them on that character, if you start a new one and need crafting stuff you're going to kick yourself when you remember the unholy amount of crafting material you sold off that you could really use to make leveling up in crafting go faster or make that component you need for a new weapon.

In order to make sure I always have mats on hand just-in-case, what I do is to keep them all until the bank is full. Then I sell half of them, and start saving them up again. This way I always have half a bank slot full of each mat. I expanded my bank to hold 500 units per slot, so for me this means selling 250 every time I reach 500 items. Doing that, I've always had more gold than I needed. I've never 'farmed' for gold, and don't really know why everyone seems to have so much trouble getting enough of it.

As a certified hoarder, I hang onto most of it until I reach the 2000-point, then sell off a stack or two. Even then, there are some I pile up in storage for possible future crafting - iron, some leather, etc. I will also refine ore > ingots, logs > planks, etc to make room. The Empyreal, etc I consume when it fills up.

Some, like garlic, I sell since it is good money and I have yet to make anything out of it.

Make mule characters (toons that you will use to store things in their inventory) and put there your 250 stacks of materials.

You will eventually have 1000 of some materials, usually when you reach that point it means you'll want to craft Ascended equipment. Please start crafting the time gated materials, because of this you'll need no more than 32 days of crafting these until you can compelete a full set of ascended. so make sure you start crafting these four materials:

These are for armor:https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Spool_of_Silk_Weaving_Threadhttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Spool_of_Thick_Elonian_Cord

These are for weapons:https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lump_of_Mithrilliumhttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glob_of_Elder_Spirit_Residue

You will need a fkton of Thick Leather Section, Silk Scrap, Mithril Ore and Eder Wood Log.

But, if you're not interested on getting Ascended Armor, or, you plan on getting these from other sources, then just keep at least 500 of each mat, and sell the rest. I dont know if there are more relevant materials for crafting tbh, but I feel like someday I will have some use for them.
