DPS Expectations

Hello,

I don't really post on forums very often but this is something that I've been curious about for a while, and if this questions been answered in another post feel free to point me there.

I am wanting to do better DPS, when I look at rotation guides I see people are posting up 35-45k rotation guides. I understand that these guides are like the 'Ideal' situation for having the right buffs/debuffs and doing the rotation completely right 100% of the time (which I understand for the average bear this is not always going to be the case)

So guess what I am asking is how much DPS should I feel "OK" about when I do a fractal. Currently on my Guardian/Thief i float around 10-17k DPS. Is this good, or am I way off the mark of where I should be. What are real world DPS numbers Primarily for fractals ( but my wife and I are interested in doing raids down the line)

Sadly I can only answer with "it depends". Your personal dps is heavily dependant on boon-uptime, which is the job of chronos and druids. Even dps below 10k can be justified if you were busy rezzing teammates. In a good group (>90% uptime on all relevant boons) you should be able to get about 20k. Though this also heavily depends on the encounter.

Since dps depends so heavily on the encounter and the group composition, I can only recommend to compare yourself to the top players in your group. How far did they pull ahead with their dps? What did they do different?

As far as fractals is concerned I find myself in the top DPS seat more often then not at 15k. Only times I see people approach 20-30k numbers is if the pull is big and there is a lot of AoE going on.

I run T4's and my smooth runs takes about 20mins or so (I mostly pug).

If you want a pat on the back, BunjiKugashira.9754 already mentioned why fractal dps is not easily compare-able. This counts double for PUG groups.

15-20k is about what a smooth run requires. Static groups will pull more, most PUGs won't.

If you want to be serious about comparing your dps and rotation to established meta builds, go hit up the golem and see how you perform. Those numbers are way more reliable in telling you how far apart from top performers you are. The golem numbers are what is possible at maximum with all boons and beneficial effects (if activated), obviously if you can't match that number you can expect your in combat performance to fall off similarly or even more.

Well, as mentioned before DPSing on a Golem with buffs and boons and having all the stars and planets align for the perfect case scenario I understand how people are getting high numbers. But in a general, what I am looking for, is an acceptable ball park number.

Think of it like this if you're in a pug and everyone is only doing 2k DPS then you know your run tonight isn't going to be all that great, But say if everyone is doing 7k dps then you can expect the run to be typical not long not short unremarkable run. If you're in a group where everyone is pulling 10-20k+ then you know you're in for smooth sailing.

Again fellas I am not asking for a firm "you need to be at 20k dps" answer here, I am looking for a soft ball park number to shoot for in fractals 12k give or take you're OK more is obviously better.

I don't care about Golem numbers just wipe that off the board.

You can't say you've joined a pug and seen people floating at 3k dps constantly and not thought about bouncing, that in turn means you have some kind of expectations for DPS to make for a decent run.

If it makes it easier to answer lets just think of a case scenario where the party comp. is NOT meta. you're with pugs and you're doing your thing and notice everyones DPS through the dailies and you think alright this is decent not a lot of dying going on.

What numbers are they hitting?

Minimum 10k (per dps) for CMs and that is already low since the fight will take longer. 8-10k (per dps) for normal T4s is fine but will take a while longer. It comes more down to how much people die. Obviously getting a group of good dps who all bring 15k will melt things asap.

Me personally, I don't mind if fights take a bit longer when I PUG (which I try to avoid). What does get me is people constantly dying, not using proper positioning or just being slow on mechanics (like cc or proper burst on ooze) or cuddling with social awkwardness.

Normal T4s are lenient enough though on dps requirements since things will die fast enough even with only 15-20k groups dps.
