Hi. So I'm caving and working on a meta build for my guardian. I personally dislike the idea of going with "cookie cutter" builds; but on the other hand, I figured I'd invest more into WVW now that EOTM is basically dead.

While looking up builds for guardian, it looks like they recommend a wupwup armor set. I have a recipe to make the insignia. I just need recipes for the gear itself. Is that a pain to get? Can i get it from/through the wvw?

does anyone else suggest some more.... budget versions I should look at in the meantime? I mean.. it's gonna take me at least a month to make all of those items as I'm having to constantly replenish my supply of leather, ectos, and silk. ><

For exotic armor, you can buy celstial recipes on the TP. For ascended, I'd recommend making whatever ascended for which you already have the recipe and reforging to WupWup using the exotic insignia or inscription.

Grieving (The Twins recipes) is a cheap ascended to start with. Also popular are Hronk or other recipes that use the cheaper exotic insignia/inscriptions from the TP.

Or you can just run WvW Triumphant Armor tracks (exotics), and use them to pick celestial stats. Since 50% of your stats are tied into trinkets, and 15% in your weapons, the realistic loss of running Exotic armor over Ascended armor is only between 1-2% total (10 points per attribute for Cele). Its 0g to get, and at worst around 2 weeks of running the reward track if you're already doing Skirmish pips. I've basically switched to this entirely for my WvW builds, and only worry about collecting trinkets as needed.

And if you're not going after WvW Legendary armor, you can buy the Mist Trinkets with the Skirmish Trinkets + memory of battle (which are in both skirmish tracks and most reward tracks, plus can buy off the TP if needed). The advantage of this is you can reset the stats on them if you ever need to update builds with different stats. Though while you buy the Trinket items via WvW, I want to emphasize that you should get the Mist Capacitor (the thing that resets them) using PvP Shards of glory (which you can also buy of the TP), as those are 1/10th of the cost.

Also, what build are you looking at? What "They say" might not be relevant, depending on what the build is trying to do. I know you're trying to avoid "cookie cutter" builds- but that further emphasizes the need to have stronger build logic, given you're still just copying someone else's build (and sounds like one from 2 metas ago).
