WvW Rank Titles

My question is simple: Why is rank title visible to enemies and not to allies (unless in party)?Wouldn't it be better the other way? I just recently reached Diamond rank and the difference in enemy focus on me is tremendous. If on the other hand allies could see the rank, then they can easily decide if they are going to trust me. My feeling is, that the current state only promotes unhealthy gameplay and a lot of "negative" emotions among players. It's like this for years and I just wonder why.

Suppose to give enemies an indicator of the experience/strength of the person they are facing, from limited contact.Diamond? ok this dude has been playing for a few years he might know what he's doing, I'll take them a bit more seriously.Just an invader? hello free bag.Which considering the wxp abuses over the years it doesn't really.Your allies play with you every day, and can easily assess your value from that, pointless to show them titles.Hi I'm diamond I'm gud? No you sit on ac's all damn day, begone heathen.

What's the point, though? People will trust you if you're

1) a skilled player which is an asset to the team2) a proven fight commander3) a well known community member

Rank only shows how much time you spent grinding levels. Ultimate dominator isn't an indicator of skill, either. Many players farmed it in Obsidian Sanctum or just spent all their playtime in zergs. Coordinated or not, who knows? No way to tell.

We need better ways to display skill Level. Wvw ranks are not one of them.

Have you ever been focused in each and every fight, pulled, turned to moa again and again? Playing low armor/hp build at that point is almost impossible. Being chased and watching people dance on your corpse or throw siege on you just because of your rank. That's what I call unhealthy gameplay.

Yes to all of the above. I view it as a win if they feel they need to do that lol. Evidently you got under their skin. Good for you. Letting them under yours defeats that.

I don't see how seeing allies ranks would change anything. I barely notice enemy ranks as is. In fact, the only reason I even notice it at all is if the player is sub-bronze, and that lets me test to see if they are a smurf account or not. If yes, then no mercy, if no, then I don't want to discourage them from the game mode by obliterating them over and over for very little gain.

Rank is displayed in place of names because ANet doesn't want competing players to whisper each other. It prevents ( but doesn't stop ) things like angry whispers or feeding the enemy team information.

Rank means very little in the grand scheme of things other than the amount of time you've played. It is there to display your experience and to give you a long term goal if you wish to achieve a specific rank. Since WvW is the end of the end game, many of the rewards or achievements are designed for players who plan to spend much of their time in WvW. Unlike PvP, rank is strictly for aesthetics and purpose of design (preventing whispers, as I mentioned) rather than prestige.

And yes, typically very high ranked players, Mithril and Diamond, will get heavily focused in team fights because those ranks are much less common and stick out like a sore thumb. I used to be in the top #10 in the world and was #32 to reach max. You will get focused and chased a lot more but if you've done things other than zerg 24/7, you should have more than enough experience to swat away the baddies. I personally love being focused (most of the time) because I can use it to my advantage by purposefully drawing attention away from backliners or commanders.

Rule of thumb: Always assume your opponent is a genius until proven an idiot. Doesn't matter what their rank or title is. Take them as a threat and determine their skill through battle, not by looks.

who cares about your rank? i mean people seriously think any non brain dead guy is gonna look and pick on people based by rank? when i gank i pick on people who are not close enough too their blob or on people trying to run back i dont give a rats ass what rank one is as any1 can be high rank when u played guardian loot stick back in the days.

only thing i remember is certain skins from players, who actually did tear me a new 1 never ever look at rank and based on that i decide i wont kill him or i will focus him.

It means nothing honestly, if you are in a party with someone on your server, they can now see your rank anyway. The only reason rank titles are even used is to prevent people from seeing the names of enemy characters and to show their experience level. That said, I'd be more wary of fighting a gold-ranked roamer than a diamond legend in general.

1000%. Generally Silver and Gold roamers are
far
more of a threat than Platinum/Mithril/Diamond ranked roamers.

Some of the more experienced players who have ONLY roamed are hitting platinum, but then you have others like myself who have split time between roaming and zerging so you get some higher ranked players. I do get insulted after killing people in even fights just because people assume I'm a trash EotM farmer and map blobber. Joke's on them. Out of those things, I'm just trash.

As I'd said in my initial comment, determine someone's skill through battle not by appearance. Although Mithril - Diamond roamers are even more uncommon than the ranks themselves, they're not non-existent. And honestly, roaming doesn't automatically mean you're skilled anyway. I know a good deal of zerglings that are plenty good but don't care to do things solo.

I'm not amazing but I'm also certain that anyone who assumes I'm bad just because I'm 10k is gonna get steamrolled. So jokes on them for making assumptions.

as a platinum player I agree with you. I'm platinum because I do a good mix of roaming and zerging, so not only is my experience split, my character builds are also split. Some of my zerg builds are completely useless at fighting 1v1. People who get up to Silver/Gold 95% from just roaming has a lot more experience than me in fighting small scale and is generally much better than me.
