InfiniteRetro.9865
Hey everyone. So the only crafting ive ever done outside of GW1 is WoW and their crafting is an utter shambles.Been curious about crafting and just wanted to get a general feel on if its worth getting into, the benefits etc. Thanks:)
Blocki.4931
Crafting doesn't really yield a monetary benefit for the most part. You'll just be crafting crap and get some returns on it (by following guides) to get your professions to max level to craft ascended gear pretty much. But before that, getting armorsmith and weaponsmith is essential imo. The rest depends mostly on your needs.
Rhyse.8179
Viable for what?It does certain things. If you want those things, you will want to craft. You could also play the game without it if you wanted.
Aaralyna.3104
Crafting can also be handy if you ever decide to build / help upgrade a guild hall. Guild halls need lots of refined materials and some crafted items. For the rest as mentioned, for ascended gears and legendaries. Also some collections need you to craft time gated stuff thats account bound.

The rest depends mostly on your needs. It depends on the class you are playing (if you play Ranger/thief/engi or ele/necro/mesmer you will need rather a letherworker or taylor than armorsmith) same goes for the weapons (an ele needs more stuff from the artificier than weaponsmith)
Ayakaru.6583
Hmm, you can craft dailies like Leuline tools. They’re worth a lot because of the daily gate
Josif.2015
Crafting is definitely needed if you're planning on playing fractals, raids and WvW since gear matters there or for legendaries if you're into getting legendary weapons. When it comes to crafting disciplines, it's best to have two at most for each profession you play, one for crafting armor and one for crafting weapons with chef being a third optional discipline which is most needed in raids and fighting players in WvW.Warrior needs armorsmith for heavy armor and weaponsmith for greatswords, swords, axes, shields etc. You have the easy to pick discipline when it comes to armor and the one that you need to carefully choose for weapons. For example, a thief has leatherworker for medium armor and weaponsmith for daggers and swords. If you ever want a rifle for your thief, it's best to craft it with an engineer since they benefit the most from the huntsman discipline.
Gehenna.3625
If you want the armor and weapons with the best stats then you need crafting because that's required. Ascended armor and weapons can only be acquired via crafting (though you can earn a few pieces left and right in collections). Ascended trinkets can be gotten via daily zones that you get mostly with LS season 3. There are some in season 4 as well but you have to be careful with which stats you want. For example viper's stats can only be gotten with LS3. This is good to read https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting for a good overview.I do not play fractals or raids or wvw, but I just enjoy the process of crafting ascended gear for my toon as it gives me something to do. Danikat.8537
As other people have said crafting isn't a good way to make gold in this game. You can make a profit on certain items but you need to keep an eye on prices, probably using a 3rd party tool like GW2Efficiency) to know what's worth crafting, and you can often make more gold for the same/less effort in another way.Mostly it's useful for making stuff for your own use. It's a reliable (non-RNG) way to get ascended armour and weapons, and there's various items - including legendaries - which require account bound crafted components. None of them are essential of course but it's nice to have the option. As for how it works I definitely think it's one of the least annoying crafting systems I've used. Mainly because there is no RNG or failure chance. A lot of recipes have to be discovered by making/finding the components and combining them on the discovery tab but each combination has 1 possible result and you're always going to get it. Same with recipes you've already discovered or learned from a recipe item: it will always succeed and the amount of materials needed is always shown in advance. There can be a lot of steps between the raw materials and the finished product but it's just a matter of clicking through the menus to get there. FyzE.3472
Just don't expect to get rewarded once you Max every profession. You will get nothing aside from achievement points while leveling the crafts.
BunjiKugashira.9754
Depends on what you mean by "viable". Different crafting disciplines have different purposes.Cooking and Jeweller are cheap to level. The exp you get while leveling these disciplines can be used to level a new character.Scribe is needed to craft guild hall decorations. The other disciplines are needed if you want to craft ascended weapons or armour. Crafting is the most reliable way to get asc weapons and armour. Please check which discipline you need to level in order to craft the equipment you want, since leveling any of these disciplines is quite expensive. There are some items that require specific disciplines. Check the wiki in case you want an item and don't know how to get it.
Evil.1580
Crafting is one of the ways to obtain asc gear and it takes a big part in 99% of the legendary gear.Actually, GW2 relays mostly on crafting or buying your gear instead of a lucky drop.RNG still takes a part of the gameplay but not as big as in a lot of other games. Kal Spiro.9745
Viable for what is the question. I highly recommend working a weapon and armor craft to grand master. Even if you don't care about it, because occasionally there are things that require it. Like the three fan designed weapon skins require Lesser Vision Crystals. Lesser Vision Crystals are very difficult to acquire outside of crafting them, and extremely easy to just craft. There are also some things that are lucrative and worth crafting, if that's what you're looking for.
Ashantara.8731
Having crafting professions leveled in GW2 is a huge bonus in my book. I wouldn't want to do without it.
