Jwhitl.1495
I am new to the game, I've leveled up to 20 and played a bit of PvP and am ready to use my boost on a character, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there that would help ease me into it because I know boosting makes to be a very overwhelming experience
Tanner Blackfeather.6509
I'd strongly advice against using the boost on your first character, as leveling is both quite fast as it is, and there's quite a lot to see even before you hit 80. TamX.1870
If this is your first toon, I'd recommend not to use booster. You find it much more valuable for your later toons, which you want to take directly to some content you already know. I used my two boosters (one from HoT, one from PoF) to two of my later characters at level around 75 - yes, close at cap. Reasons to do this: (1) I didn't want to use booster before I had gathered enough Hero Points for the toons (as HP gathering levels toon pretty fast anyways, and you'd like to have HPs to immediately start unlocking HoT/PoF elites), (2) I didn't want to make/buy intermediate lvl 75 gear set just for few levels, (3) I wanted to free shared inventory slot instead of using ToKs.Leveling in this game is very quick process compared to many other games, even for newcomers. If you boost a low level toon, you will anyways come back later to same areas, so the booster is sort of wasted in such way, that you could have done more things at lower levels when the gained XP would have mattered to that toon. There are reasons to boost low level toons, of course, but I think it is most suited to players who have already several toons and they know where they want the newly created toon.EDIT: On the other hand, you don't harm yourself permanently when boosting. At some point you will want to get rid of the booster anyways. If you use booster to your first toon, you may miss it later in some cases, but when you have played enough, you can take your newly created toons to level cap with ToKs anyways (ToK = Tome of Knowledge). You can easily go back to areas you like or want to do with your boosted toon, too.
Taygus.4571
Save the boosters. Level up the normal way. There is loads to do in core. Sephylon.4938
If you just want to pvp, you're upscaled to 80 so boosting won't do anything for you. All stats are obtained via pvp amulets.
Biff.5312
In addition to the above, another consideration when boosting to 80 is that you by-pass not only the experience that lets you learn how to play - but also all the gathering/loot that you'd normally accumulate. So you'll reach lvl 80 but have no gold. Then you'll complain that you can't afford anything and ask how to get gold quickly. Then you'll spend your time farming gold and wondering why you even play this game.

Best to level several characters to 80 first before using it for many reasons. Eventually you'll end up going back to those zones on your level 80 to get the hero points, unlock the waypoints and mastery points, do map completions, etc anyways. When all that happens, you'll start thinking and say to yourself "wish I didn't use the level 80 boost had I known I would still have to do all this anyways!" Besides, leveling is quick and easy on GW2, not a grind like other MMOs.
TwiceDead.1963
Just adding to the pile. Don't use your boost. Level 80 in the expansion areas is no joke, I've known people to rage-quit outright because they jumped straight into HoT before getting to know the games mechanics. Future tip: If your heels are getting nibbled, it's probably pocket-raptors.
Hex.2579
if you want guidance, i'd say a lot of us wouldn't recommend boosting your first char up since you need to know the game mechanics well or else it'll not only become confusing when you get to 80, but it's also too much to absorb. you'll gonna need new gears, new builds or everything will rekt you fast. and you'll need to know your skills, which you wouldn't have a clue if you boost a char. mostly first toons are going to stay with you. so it's better to manually leveling them. it may take a bit but you'll get there. and many opportunities will open. so don't fret xD
Turkeyspit.3965
The worst part about boosting is you are overwhelmed by having all your abilities and traits unlocked, rather than progressively unlocking them as you level, and have a chance to try them out. I'd also suggest not using your boost, but take your time and enjoy the leveling experience. Besides, you might decide at max level that you don't like the profession you chose. My first character at LV 80 was relegated to doing dailies in WvW and nothing else. The 2nd character I created is my 'main', on which I do all the story as well as endgame content. Misquesh.9504
I think boosting your character is fine if you know how to build it. Just take a look at your traits and search for stuff that works together. If you understand how your profession works - go ahead and boost it. No reason to torture yourself by going through the game with an empty toolkit while you already know how to use the full set.Play through the base game storyline to get used to it, maybe do some events on high level maps. Expansions are rather different from the base game gameplay-wise. I'm talking enemies and location layouts, so you will have to learn to work with that no matter what - booster or no booster. I boosted my thief and that saved me a lot of time, nerves and spamming of boring abilities. Also don't worry much about missing out on that "character progression" thing. When you reach level 80 you will gain access to elite specs, as you probably know, but you will have to level them up by collecting hero points, so your progression won't stop just because you used a booster. Expansion Hero Challenges grant you 10 hero points per challenge, so it's not as bad as doing the base-game ones and you will have your full build to not feel bored while doing it.Basically - if you feel comfortable building your character in PvP and don't want to slowly level it up to learn it - use a booster. If you don't understand how your character works and how it's skills and abilities synergise - don't.
