Tagging outside the zerg squad for loot.

In or out of a squad as long as you tag with certain dmg amount I think you get same? I never noticed any difference but I could be wrong, as my participation is always maxed out most of the time and I generally make a certain number of lootbags per play time depending on class.

I miss loot even I kill the same lord / supervisor with other people. Just because my char does not make as much damage or as fast as other people do. Loot is damage-based. E.g., my power staff mesmer makes damage very slow and has blinds / blocks to survive longer.

To me, more important is how "on enemy kill" sigils works. E.g., bloodlust sigil.

If you get WXP, then you had your chance at loot and counts as a charge for your sigils.

I usually synthetize before going lords room when blobbing, and even though he's at 50% and I rotatate through all my skills alot of the time it's not enough. Remember the bigger the sample size (more players hitting the npc), the more damage over time you will need in order to tag it. Same goes for enemy players.

What does get you a major loot advantage however is supporting people with heals, which lowers the tag threshhold (only need to have tapped foes if the people you healed get kill cred). Since some ways to give boons also heal, boon application do it by proxy.

If you dont have anyone to support... Well you need to tag everything at the normal threshhold.

comparably u get much less loot from heal tagging that playing a really good aoe class like scourge

But yeah... AoE is good too.

The tagging threshold is pretty low but it is possible that being outside the squad and not receiving boons makes it difficult to survive and keep up with the group depending on your build. But if you're winning it really doesn't hurt to run ahead and just hit them with something.

Also bring reflects. This is the easiest way to tag anything since it would use their damage, not yours. For some unknown reason people are terrible at keeping it up.

No it doesnt

If you are outside the squad, you pretty much have to stay ranged as those within the squad are given priority on buffs. Chances are you will have no stab and little heals, so you'll be insta CC'd and melted if you tried to push.

I have failed to get credit for lord kills and tower caps when outside a squad, despite fully participating from beginning to end. It doesn't happen very often but I have had it happen on more than one occasion.

Unrelated to question, but if you're already running power, why bother with staff which is condi/utility weapon? GS gives both better burst and faster tagging.

Another note: why bother tagging anything in wvw when pve gives 10x better loot even in open world?

Reward tracks & skirmish rewards = parts for Legendaries and ascended.

You dont need tagging for any of those. Participation doesnt drop after 10+ minutes so you have plenty of time to do anything.

I kinda read that as why do wvw anyway. Why tag? loot/bags, badges, & WXP. Back when I was starting out following the zerg was the safest and fastest WXP. My question was to figure out if someone who couldn't get into the squad would still get those, or just the xp from taking the objective.

Being in squad doesnt change anything. Mesmer is pretty bad for tagging in large fights since it lacks aoes and taking objectives requires standing in capture points or killing (not just tagging) guards if you dont make it to the point. Staff is terrible either way and gs only helps in bursting down npcs/fast tagging a low number of targets. You shouldnt watch wvw as farm since rewards it gives are crap. Might as well roam, kill other players, flip objectives in small groups or take an actual zerg class and be useful in squad. If you're there for loot you're really wasting your time since one hour in Istan is like whole day in wvw.

Many good pointers in this thread already but I'll add mpo/experience.

Those in squad get shared boons, buffs priority to survive better (more aggressive playstyle since heals in party/squad) hence can probably tag more. I've run outside squad many times and it's noticeable in terms of not receiving proper boons for engagement with the enemy; you're likely to get CC'd/condi spike unable to land hits therefore less tagging opportunity. Overall just pick a class with high AoE uptime and tag all the things if you can't get into a squad. Hope that helps.
