RaptorRick.4980
Im playing an elementalist and my play style tends to go towards wanting to survive. Had i known that the elementalist is the most fragile class I would not have picked it, but here we are.http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQFAWhUMovhtMwwBsSMQAYVmMNMGiCQAYBQZhjQlE-jxRBABWt/wbK/A4BAo/FAAI1faTHAtKBBA-eThis is the build I have panned for PVE. At most it is going to be all exotic stuff since I just got into the game a month ago and the skill can change depending on what kind of play style i will want to adopt. I know the current meta for ele is that its "go zerker or go home" but Im not planning on doing anything that would require a high level meta build. Is this build garbage or is it some what usable? steki.1478
It is useless. First the sigil since it only affects heals on others, not you. You're using staff which means that you can constantly kite enemies and not take much damage. That leads to next issue which is toughness - you're not supposed to face tank damage. When you're effectively kiting, CCing, blinding enemy you barely get hit, so any defensive gear stat becomes worthless.Check a few open world builds on metabattle and get inspiration from those. You're building tanky for no reason, you can avoid damage instead of reducing it and when enemy's dead it doesnt do damage. Having tanky gear means that mobs die slower, making fighting them obnoxious and long for no reason. If you want to survive, learn to actively avoid damage, not passively reduce the damage you face tank. Dont face tank. Zerker is meta for a reason - mobs die fast so you dont need to kite/tank them for hours and you can kill most of them without even dropping below 80% hp.Late edit: that doesnt mean that you have to use berserker gear, but try to use as much offensive stats as you can (whether it's direct damage or condition damage) with a few pieces focused on vitality (and damage type you're interested in). Stand The Wall.6987
if its open world pve - just running around in the big maps and not instanced content - you can run whatever you want. for instanced content metabattle.com for tips. run tanky at first if youre dying too much then slowly put in more dps gear. Zhaid Zhem.6508
It won't even work in open world, no power, no dps, just far too much toughness and vitality, it's not even support.I'm sorry I really doubt you'll get fun with this equipment; every mob will take you 5 minutes to kill, if they don't kill you before with CC chain or conditions.Elem is squishy, that right, but you also have a very strong DPS/burst specially in pve against stupid AI. Play with some vitality and healing power if you need it, but you should focus on power/precision/ferocity a minimum, because the way to stay alive in pve is to kill the mobs before they get time to hurt you, not to tank infinitely and expect some one else will kill them for you. antorios of boxius.1043
You are on the right track if you want to play a more tank style, if you prefer absorbing massive amounts of damage, and continue to fight! Of course you mentioned you are looking to see what play style you like , being only a month in game. 1 suggestion, i have is looking at the other elite skills, i use the elemental glyph, water elemental glyph will give yourself and anyone close a fantastic heal, fiery greatsword elite will provide damage, not a bad idea to test that out if you have not. Not a fan of the ele elites since launch, hope that will be looked at with all the problems ele curently has as listed in this forum to exhaustion(where have you gone searing flames elite)(250 years or so later, you think it would be still a elite skill, my thoughts are it was the best in gw1 for ele). If you do find absorbing more damage to your liking, with less focus on kiting, or running, consider Earth as a trait line , you can remove armor of earth in your skill bar and replace it with a damage skill, because you can take it from your trait line. Arcane wave is not helping you much because you have 0 in ferocity, consider signet of fire for multiple foe burns at a heavy clip if you spend some points for condition damage. If you decide to stick with ele, and want to survive , you will , if you fight regular groups/vets, with just about any build, but if you challenge champions, or get involved with bounties in POF, you will need some toughness especially if you are solo. For a month in game, i think you did well trying to find balance with damage, survivability, but this game requires sacrifice for ele(only play ele, can't speak for other professions) you can do great damage, but you will be squishy, or you can tank with the best of em, and have low damage. Bty if you consider tanking, look at condition damage instead of power, you can do 2-5k, (or even more)a second with bleeding and burning if traited right. You can take the power way down and instead use it for healing power, bring your 419 to 700+ healing power and then add some more toughness and condition damage. This is the type of build i run daily, because it is what i prefer over damage /squishy. The bottom line is run what YOU like, test different builds, you are doing well for only a month in Good Luck!
