phs.6089
Are dredges live in simplified 'socialistic' society? Why there are several Slavic references in dreadge's names, titles?e.g https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratnikhttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/General_Volkov
kasoki.5180
Dredge live in a state of perpetual, never-ending revolution. Which is an oversight by narrative team in my opinion. And yes, Dredge names and some titles are Slavic in origin. Why that is is hard to say. I guess thats just the way Anet made it

Interesting.Yeah, they're a bit of a parody of Socialist Revolutionary tropes. They were enslaved by the dwarves in the past, and have been in a revolution to get "rid of the opressors" ever since, even after the "opressors" left the world for 250 years or so.Kinda contemporary in a way. Also, the mentioned oversight isn't really one...Firts post-HoT it was established that each map is in a "frozen state" in history... Basically Most core maps are frozen in their 2012 point in time, at most you have some that are stuck back in 2014. HoT Maps are stuck in 2015, Living World maps are frozen in their respective release schedule.Since there's been no new maps with prominent Dredge presence, we can't tell what happened to them. But the writers were quite clever, and mirrored what happened in a lot of "Socialist" revolutions (Venezuela, Cuba, Russia, China, N.Korea, etc): The revolution ended, the revolutionary leaders took to power, and perpetuated their power, turning their states into communist dictatorships. Always using the "capitalist enemy" as the center-point for their power grab. The dredge are pretty much the same, their "leadership" is holding onto power buy perpetuating the threat of their "opressors", even though they're long gone.In fact in Frostgorge Sound, there's a rebel faction within the dredge that are working to free themselves from the despotic leadership. The game launched with a ton of interesting things like this, too bad the later releases have less of these nuances... The best we've seen was the Amnoon political stance that we basically pick for them, instead of seeing how it evolves by itself.
