LWS5: I believe we are going to Cantha

Cantha being the next stop was something I had in mind a while ago.. I hope this comes to, Cantha was mine and many other peoples favorite region in Gw1.It's been by far the most requested region to go back to since Gw2 released so I've no doubt the Devs have long wanted to go back there as well but haven't had a good enough reason to take the story there until now.

Regardless i'm looking forward to seeing how season 4 ends and where season 5 is going to lead.. and I need not mention how much I hope I'll be buying another expansion after that.2 seasons of living world back to back is tolerable but I want my expansions as well.

Yeah...no, thanks. :/

Why do you think it will all be about shiro and the jade sea? 250 years have passed, we have no idea what is out there now. There might be a race we haven't even discovered yet.

Or more of ones we have but know very little about..Cantha is home to many species Gw2 only players have never seen before and some Gw1 players would love to see again. The Kraken, Naga, Leviathans, Saltspray Dragons, Island Guardians, Wardens, Bonesnap Turtles, phoenix's, Kappas.. just to name a few.Going back there is more than just for Nostalgia which is a rather ignorant claim some people make.

Cantha has a very rich culture and lore built around it which a lot of people loved in the first game, we know little about what has happened there in the last 250 years but one of the biggest questions is how has the Elder Dragon problem effected them.

The dragons being the most powerful and dangerous creatures on the planet and the main antagonists of the game and all that but all of them are local to Tyria..For all we know there are more of them out there terrorizing other continents or at least the problems caused by the Elder Dragons and their minions are effecting the whole planet not just Tyria which is so far the only place in the game we can explore including Elona which is pretty much connected to the main landmass.

I'd like to know what's going on in Cantha, specially what they've had to deal with since the Dragons woke up.For all we know they've been getting terrorized by the Sea dragon.. or perhaps Kralkatorriks rifts have managed to open down there too and the Canthans have had to deal with swarms of Branded since he got into the mists. There may even be Destroyers down there.

Who says Cantha was only human-centric? What about the Tengu, for instance?

Emperor Kisu's son, Usoku, drove out the Tengu and other non-human races. In fact he also crushed the Kurzick and Luxon factions, forcing them back under his rule. Anyone that disagreed with him was exiled from Cantha to Elona or Tyria. He also exiled those he considered 'sick' or 'weak'. A very harsh man, completely different from the men his father and uncle were.

I'm glad you feel how i feel! I loved the kurzick lands and would love to be Kurzick again. I think it would open up a lot more than just the lands. There is the PvP between luxon and kurzick or maybe more than one faction for example and I'll be quite happy for it to be about another race even one we know about now - and as you have stated the area was full of dragons, so i can't see how the story can't be taken there. Cantha might even be the door way to the new lands people want too.Shame people would be against open world PvP mind :bleep_bloop:

Melding of different Asian cultures and people didn’t like it.

All other races were kicked out remember, unless some kind of disaster has struck, the entire continent is dominated by humans.

"Following these events, a new ministry was formed. The Ministry of Purity set out to do what the other Celestial Ministries would not: to cleanse Cantha of the Afflicted, crime, and all other hostilities. Their leader, Minister Reiko Murakami, became corrupt with power, however, and was slain, but the Ministry of Purity remained and continued to lead the way to a more peaceful life. The Ministry of Purity paved the path for Canthans' mentality of increasing xenophobia. This mentality culminated in 1127 AE, when Kisu's successor, Emperor Usoku, raised the Canthan military by spending millions in gold and conquered the still-warring vassal states of the Luxons and Kurzicks, forcing them fully into the empire once more. With this done, he then drove out all non-humans and closed the borders to Cantha. Said to be tyrannical and fierce, those who disagreed with Emperor Usoku left their homeland and sought refuge in Elona and Tyria." Source.

We don't know why the Canthan district was removed. The only thing we know for sure is that it was a last minute decision and that ANet has never officially commented on it. (The sum total I've been able to find on the topic is quoted in full in that thread; it's not much.)

I doubt we would have a season dedicated to a whole other continent, when they've expanded the map on the main land. There is still that whole sea dragon underwater that prevents travel there. If it wasn't we could have just flown there from the core game with the flying ships. They've been teasing Cantha in Easter eggs and other stuff since core game.

I think next area will be north towards Jormag area. We need to deal with the Deep Sea dragon before going south.I also doubt the dragons are having any effect on the rest of the planet since all 6 of them are living in central Tyria either due to the concentration of magic pooled there, or the rest of the planet isn't inhabited by anything of any interest., or because of story/ development convenience.

If anything I can see Cantha being its own Xpac once they've run out of dragons for us to kill. That's my thoughts on it.

I also have a feeling that new elite specs are awaiting us:

  • Necromancer: Ritualist
  • Thief: Assassin
  • Ranger: Dervish
  • (no idea for the others)

Mark my words: Cantha looms on the horizon. :)

Based on the recent press, it seems they want to focus on expanding existing maps. It is highly unlikely will go to a new location completely.

I am expecting the next season to be in and around core Tyria.

Dervish isn't from Cantha. It's from Elona (Nightfall). In my opinion lots of balance patches were implemented with the mind of adding more classes in the future.

I think it's more likely to expand PoF maps, and give people a reason to go to them.

Especially since LS5 will still be part of PoF

I expect we will eventually go to Cantha

As for the mixed Asian styles I doubt that’s a problem for Cantha. If it was actually a problem then ANet won’t have mixed styles. They’ll have something else. Lorewise, it’s been 250 plus years after all. They could have drastically changed to a completely different style that has no Asian connections at all.

Who knows...... maybe Cantha is where disco went to and never left. Our first true hint will be when the gemstore sells an outfit decorated with flashing, rotating disco balls. ^^
