Xero.8391
I have two weapon skins which are equipped. I know I'll want to use them on better weapons later on, but the "Unlock Skin" option is grayed out. Can anyone tell me how to unlock the skins from my current weapons?

WhyMan.2981
If you have them equipped they should already be unlocked... check in your wardrobe
Inculpatus cedo.9234
Go to Hero (H), scroll down to Wardrobe, click on your equipped weapon of choice on the Hero Panel (your character), and to the left you will see all the skins you have unlocked for that particular weapon, armor piece, backpack, etc. :)Good luck. Xero.8391
Thanks for the info, though I'm still a little confused. Am I seeing this right?.. I have to use Transmutation Charges to change the skin to another weapon? Or am I missing something?
Tycko Larsson.7829
That is correct. You need transmutation charges to change the skin of items.

Seems stupid to have to pay cash to change a cash purchased skin from one weapon to another.
Tycko Larsson.7829
You will get a tran charge when you complete a map or rearly a blc key. Easiest to do is the main cities and you get exp too.

This includes the starter cities and Lion's Archopening a black lion chest gives you a guaranteed black lion statue that you can trade in for two charges, plus a random chance at another five charges. Keys are awarded for certain steps of the personal story (levels 10, 40 and 60), randomly given instead of the single charge for completing non-city maps (with an average chance of 20% I think), and very rarely can drop of monsters you kill anywhere in the worldpaid accounts get transmutation charges as part of the login reward schedulemany wvw and pvp reward tracks award charges
Danikat.8537
While I'm levelling up a character I usually only change their skins if I really don't like the default, because otherwise you can burn through a lot of transmutation charges and although you get some free from login rewards, map completion and other sources you could easily end up using more than that and having to buy them. I'd rather stick with a boring skin than do that.It is annoying when you've got something that's perfect for the character before they reach level 80, but even if you're like me and level them 'slowly' by exploring and doing the story it doesn't take long to reach level 80 (my first character took 7 months, or about 100 hours of play time) and once they're level 80 and you've got a set of exotic equipment with good stats you probably won't change it very often, so transmutation becomes less of an issue. I actually change skins more often than I change the weapon they're on.
Holykitten.3064
Don't use transmutation charges if you're leveling, it's not worth it. Weapons can look ugly too, but until you start earning Zenith Skins from Achievements, there's not much you can do about that.Buy yourself an Outfit to level in, the cheapest would be to buy an Endless Common Clothing Tonic from the Trading Post, and swapping it with the Black Lion Exchange Specialist to unlock the Common Clothing Outfit, go to you Hero panel (by pressing 'H'), then click outfits, select the outfit and check the box to show it. This way, your mismatched armor while leveling doesn't matter.Once you're leveled, and start playing WvW/PvP or even just 100% map exploration, you'll earn enough Transmutation charges to play fashion wars. Even if you don't do WvW, logon rewards and map completion will give you a decent stockpile. I have never bought them from the gem store and have never run out.You will however be light on them as you level, but since you will level very fast, you will change weapons very quickly so I;d advise saving most of your charges for level 80 onwards

Wait until you have reached level 80 and have the actual equipment you are going to use from there on.

You will cycle through weapons every 5-10 levels. It'll just be a waste imo. Plus, as you level higher, you will have many chances to acquire charges without having to pay. I leave all of mine in the bank until I need them. Additionally, if you are only level 15, you are going to stumble across some much cooler skins in the coming levels. Many in GW2 say to consider leveling from 1-80 a tutorial. I suppose a really dragged out tutorial. But when you look at it like that you can see why you shouldn't waste too much time/money messing with skins and wasting charges. However, you can usually change a lot of your armor color and stuff without needing to waste any charges, just to give you a temporary look that you like for the time being. That's what I would normally do.
