Future Content?

So, with the unfortunate personnel changes at Arenanet, and the seemingly concrete position of no more expansions...do we only have another living story to look forward to? And are Living Stories the only new content we have to look forward to?

Considering everything that has happened in the last 6 months, as unfortunate as it is/was, do we have any hope for new classes/races, expansion level content and continents, etc?
Im beginning to feel that the only additions to the game will be piece meal living story updates every few months that take a few hours to complete. Which leads me to believe that the game is heading toward the dreaded 'maintenance' mode

I don't mean to be a debby downer here but from what Ive read, I don't see much more than living story and holiday-esq event style content for the future of GW2. Has me a bit sad is all.

LS 5 is confirmed. Since that will conservatively last 18 months after LS4 ends, that's a long time to before we have to wonder how ANet is going to introduce new content, new features, draw in enough new players to keep the game lively.

Well... the game was "kind of" in "maintenance" mode for the past year, not anymore now luckily it seems.

Any source on the elite specs through LS thing? I try to keep up with GW2 news but I haven't seen any specific mention to elite specs.

They didn't mention anything. But imo they need to add some new fresh stuff in upcoming ls, or ppl will just get bored from playing same shit for next 1,5 year. I hope they are aware of that

As well as living story there's regular raid releases and new Fractals get released every so often as well (I don't follow that closely enough to know the schedule but I'm sure the info is out there). And of course there's the on-going plans for WvW, mainly changing from servers to 'worlds' made up of guild alliances and other people which should shake things up a lot. Not sure about PvP, but mainly because I pay absolutely no attention to PvP so it would have to be a really, really big announcement for me to know anything about it.

From my perspective it seems like business as usual, but all releases are free periodic updates instead of stuff being held back so it can be released as a paid expansion, but I realise most people don't think of it that way.

It's a long way from 'maintenance mode' however, which is the position GW1 is in where I think it's had 2 updates in about 5 years, and both of those were just bug fixes with no new content of any kind.

Releasing in bulk vs periodic is far from the only difference between an xpac and LS. The quality of content is also higher. Even if we disregard all the other features, the amount of brand new assets that come into the game through an expansion is incomparable to LS releases.

That's not to say a LS can't possibly have xpac-like quality, it's just not what we 've been getting so far.

Source?I mean they have said that after LS4 comes LS5.There may be LS6 after LS5 but I can't find concrete position of ANET saying "no more expansions ever".IMO 3rd expansion should and will come sooner or later.If one of the best MMORPG in the last 10 years is going to maintenance mode what will be the fate of the rest of the games in this genre?

there is a lot of confusion as to what teminology means to Arenanet and what it means to each individual player and the playerbase.

With expansion packs and living world, we have two terms that hold a value. With expansion packs, you often see people that want to compare it to content from other games, but in effect it means.

• About 4-5 new maps
• 14-16 story chapters
• New elite specialisations
• new movement mechanics
• 1-2 new guild halls
• etc

This is paid content for all players. it costs about 30 USD

Living world content is a term made up by Arenanet and is not set in solid concrete. This works confusing as we tend to look at the most recent content to see what we can expect. However, so far it has been subject to a lot of changes. No season has been the same., but looking at the last 2

• 6 new maps per season
• 30-37 story chapters
• a few new movement mechanics
• new legendary weapons.

This is free content for active players and cost about 10 USD for others

Important is to note that the size of the maps varies a lot, but they seem to be getting bigger.

Now let's look at what Arenanet actually said about the future.

• No new expansion packs.
• We will be focussing on living world season 5
• The scope of what a living world chapter can be and what content it can hold is possibly gonna change again.

This reads to me that they will release less paid content and more free content. The quality might be somewhat lesser then to be expacted, but it seems that Arenanet is no longer working on any unknown side projects or content for GW2, the main four teams are working on season 5

So I expect (and demand as an demanding customer) that this season 5 will be richer in content then earlier seasons and will sattisfy my need for new enjoyable content. We can have a lot of expectations, but instead of filling in the blanks, I like to challenge the teams. Sattisfy my need for enjoyable content! Surprise me!

They have never stated there will be another expac, but nor have they stated there wont be. All they've said is ls5 is next which may or may not include expansion like features. After that, they have been silent on the issue

Game will not go into maintenance mode yet, GW2 is the only profitable project for Anet, if they do, Anet will close down.I am pretty sure that there will be expansion 3 in the future. :)

I'd be worried if that's the case. Were those quotes from pre-HoT era? After HoT and PoF we have a pretty good idea of the type of content expansions offer. These days we don't need Anet to "tell" us what they consider to be expansion-like, we can just log into HoT or PoF and see for ourselves what a GW2 expansion is.

The only announced content being worked on is Living World, Season 5. We do know there will not be an expansion between the end of Season 4 and the start of Season 5. That's it. No more, no less.

Did the specifically say elite specializations would come in living world? I would assume that’s saved for expansions
