Weeklong Bonus Event: Meta-Event Rush!

Edit: I recommend using LFG Central Tyria Squads for finding events. Can be tricky to get sometimes, especially on Orr.

There was absolutely zero on LFG for any zone of the event when I was in game in the afternoon. The only thing I saw up was 1 riba farm.

I saw that too yesterday. First day there was a lot more people, and I hope they will run Orr more again now that the defense events should work. People tend to place groups on LFG for a short time when close to completing challenges, at least. To me Orr was a good goto place between the timed events.

The rewards feel a lot better this time around. Unfortunately for me, I'm getting kinda burned out right now so I probably won't do much in this event either.

I hope this helps to bring some awareness to certain events, as well. Some bugged ones have been mentioned, but I'd also like a pass of clarifying some. I don't have any good examples at the moment, but when I was doing some of the Temples in Orr, there was often a lot of confusion in map chat about which events had finished, when events would restart, or whether defense events would even count for this or that, and it would unfortunately get heated sometimes.

So far I've enjoyed this event a lot. I already did open world metas on a daily basis, so seeing a boost in their popularity, having squads 3 times the usual size and getting a bunch of boxes (as opposed to 1 per world boss) with a nice amount of extra mats and a small chance to something really expensive keeps it fresh and exciting, rather than just another daily task (a fun one at that, don't get me wrong).

It was also quite nice seeing the community goal achievement pop up yesterday while I was playing, it reminded me that this is a live dynamic event, not a scheduled thing like we usually get. I wish I could see the bar fill up in real time, though! It would be great if it was integrated in the UI, at the top right corner of the screen. It would get me excited for an upcoming goal or even be entertaining if it got a small sudden bump in progress to check which meta so many people took part in :)

I hope some persisting bugs can be ironed out quickly and that future events can make other PoF events take the spotlight as well: the djinns in the Necropolis and Forged with Fire are still somewhat obscure, even though they're fun and different to the usual events.

There is a bar (well, now several bars) showing progress for each Tier. Last I looked, Tier 3 was about 1/3 of the way completed.

Oh is there? Now I feel like a complete idiot. It must have automatically stayed hidden and I didn't see it. Thanks for the heads up!

I think it's fun. ^^Didn't drop exciting things so far, but quite a bit of material.

Meta-Events in PoF: serious damage build, doing rotas, all players getting low or down occasionally...First time I had a full Vabbi-instance by the way. ^^Meta-Events in Orr: Temple-train. Turret/flamethrower build just to tag anything. Average vet lifetime 0.2s. Average champion lifetime: 3s. Average final boss lifetime (neglecting mechanic-waiting) 15s. It was pretty hard to tag anything aside from champs and final bosses.

The difference between PoF and Tyria metas is pretty strong. ^^

@Aaralyna.3104 said:I like the way that Dragonfall handles map is way better as it does reset and close but if you are organising on map you can just play the meta no problem without getting stuck in a full thingy.

crossing fingers for a future update where this feature comes to dragon stand

the way the map closes currently in DS is horrendous, even if you have three squads fully organized before map reset, chances are commanders will be tossed into different instances, and they fill up before people can reunite again.

You have to have done contribution for the bar to show up

I've done a bunch of the metas that are part of the event already :/ I'll look into it when I can actually log into the game.

The south escort gets stuck under the ground and doesn't walk any further, he even keeps talking as if everything is normal. All enemies cleared, nothing you can do to make sure it succeeds. The bug
is
the south lane escort.

All you can do is praise Joko and hope it doesn't bug out.

So far, the successful runs I've been on have focused on making sure the south NPC doesn't take any kind of damage at all, keeping the mobs near his starting point dead in the lead-up, clearing the path well ahead of him, and making sure there are enough people on top of him to clean up any incidental spawns nearby. I heard one theory that he goes underground when he takes CC damage, which makes me wonder if it's related to the problem with that bounty in Elon Riverlands where Morg ends up under the map and can only be hit with some kinds of AoE damage.

Adding to this train of discussion: I had another successful run last night, this time map chat was mentioning that we needed to let the escort NPCs engage in combat before players killed everything to keep them from bugging out. Don't if this plays into the issue, or if maybe it's some combination of things already mentioned.

I'd rather get a nice little sparkles infusion like the Teal Branded Mist effect as the Tier 5 reward than the mini we will get. The drop rate for exciting rewards is lousy again. :( So far, I have only received common and uncommon drops, like the majority of the community.

Would have to disagree. Some of these are meant as short time events and others longer. This is a good pace and is drawing some people back in since they are seeing new content. Keep it up.

I disagree with your disagreement, so there :p

I put a ton of hours into this game on a regular basis and I am also frequently overwhelmed with how much there is to do. I don't think having all these things going on at once is bad for the game and I don't think anet should adjust how they develop their game based on my individual preferences. But I did want to point out that the quoted poster isn't necessarily an outlier, there are plenty of ppl who prefer a slower pace . . .

I agree you disagree with my disagreement. :)

I would agree if they stack a bunch of things and then we get a lot of nothing. The main reason for that is some people will rush thru content because they were in a draught and its the new thing. That's not good. If they release too much together it could be bad as well since somethings are limited access and people will rush thru as well to get in as much of limited time content as possible and then feel they are missing out on something else. But I think what we have here are differing teams releasing multiple projects and timing. Aka the event team has their stuff ready to go while the PvP team is working on their next season and the WvW is working on their next event. Not sure what team the legendary falls under but odds are that was also a separate team. I am saying the pace is good because not everyone is a PvXer. To a PvP player this bonus week might a week that is no change for them, same for the WvWer or the raider. If next week was raid week then that will be a null week for different groups of people. The difference here is stacking larger releases and seeming like development is dead versus gradual releases that to some players may seem as if there is more active development going on. It still may be the same amount of work but to the player it might appear more. If they had stacked all this together on the same week then people would need to decide what are they spending time not doing versus a rolling release where they can work on it in stages. It does impact the completionists, I know this as well, still working on new map achievos, skyscale, and in WvW there is also stuff to attack and defend 24x7. But that's not for everyone, but at this pace there will be some new stuff for everyone in shorter time periods with this kind of pace, hence my disagreement.

Or it could be I am out of coffee too.

Well rare things wouldn't be rare if everyone got them ;)

I feel like the majority of recent events and additions have been pve focused, but I get your point. I feel like the reason we hear so much more frequently from the 'MOAR CONTENT' crowd is that they are in the substantial majority. I just like to chime in every once in a while as a reminder that it's not the only perspective :)

The only negative aspect of crowding in this much content is that it's likely unsustainable, either at the player base level or the developer level. We don't know the work involved in designing these events, or more importantly, keeping them running - but that has to take a toll on the ANET team, as well as the participating players.

So at some point the events will stop...and then there will be a drought; unless they decide to re-use the same events, it will take time to conceive, design and develop new ones. Logically it would be better to have 1 special event every month rather than 3 events back to back, and then nothing for 9 weeks.

No way for me to know if this is what will happen, but I feel it's a logical assumption.

Yes, sorry. I meant tonic.

My point exactly, and that is why farming these events seems a bit dull. Nothing to look forward to in terms of rewards. Hence my suggestion to make a better community goal reward instead of the underwhelmingly looking tonic. Something special and exciting to remember the event and reward your effort.

Agree a sense of boost followed by draught is bad and would indicate the tempo was off. We also might be seeing a number of projects that were almost there being completed now that the teams have been reworked and people are tasked differently.

Current event should be renamed from "meta rush" to "zombie rush".

It makes all the content I already don't do, because I personally find it boring, even more boring, because there are now so many people doing them that I don't care one twat if I help or not because it's not going to make a difference. Basically an event about trivializing already trivialized content. I don't find it fun to play 15+ players in this game, because it de-evolves into a spam fest, it takes away all the fun of the combat system.

And also "rewards". Sigh, I don't play any content or anything else for the rewards. You could pay me 100 gold per Shadow Behemoth kill, and I still wouldn't kill him any more frequently than I currently do (once ever 1-3 months, if I happen to be on the map when he spawns, and be nearby). All this event is doing is reminding me of why I never really played much other MMO's or Diablo3.
