The Next Elementalist Elite spec

I would like it to be a spec where you stay in ONE Elemental attunement and instead have 2 weapon sets. One of the things I really dislike about Weaver is the Mozart like grasp you need to get the decent dps by having to swap to all the different attunements. Imo, it asks too much of your patience for competitive dps. For the next spec I would like to be able to stay in ONE attunement. Thematically there is nothing like a pure ice mage or Lightning caster and it would be unique for the ele to switch weapons rather than constantly swapping between all 4 elements.

You can use fire tempest if you want just one attunement dps.http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PGgAs2lNwSYXMEGJOqWttfA-zxIY/ohPMSKguEwZWo+sC-eCamp fire, overload and blast to keep perma might and fury. Super simple and quite efficient. Only thing remotely complex is to time your aura and aura blast to make the best of overload aura and weapon aura for max burns and might.Very "fire mage" if you want...Was meta for a while in raids before PoF.

Go with trailblazer gear if you feel squishy in open world.

A bow. Yes, a Bow. Why a Bow? Have you ever played Dragon's Dogma? Have you ever seen a MYSTIC ARCHER? Imagine conjure ice bow but on kitten crack. Throw in some irony like Longbow - Physical. Make the utilities do cool flips and evasive stunts, make the F1-5 have some kind of volley mechanic on attunement swap. Or ammo for "charged shots" that either change the weapon 1-5 or add additional effects. Make the ammo refresh on attunement swap.

Oh, beat me to it. Nice!

How about no more elite specs ever until the current ones for all classes translate into something more than "DPS increase" or "literally every other meta PvP build except the particle effects are [this color]" instead? How about we stop designing and theorizing entirely based on flavor rather than function?

I actually like this idea.Back in gw1 you more or less had to choose a single Element to invest in as a dominant.. though there were some builds that specialized in 2.I quite liked that about Gw1 since elements actually had strengths and weakness it made swapping between them depending on the region and enemies something that would make you more or less effective in them.Pyromancers excelled in the Shiverpeaks against all the ice enemies for example..

Gw2 kinda gutted the element system and turned Elementalist into a complicated flippyfloppy mage.. investing in any specific element doesn't really feel like that element becomes so dominant over the other 3 like it does in Gw1 and I miss that.I like the idea of an Elite Spec that really makes you feel like a specialized Pyromancer, Aquamancer, Geomancer or Aeromancer.I don't know how they would do this exactly but if I had to guess..

I'd probably do it so that the F1-4 element skills become F1-3..F1 would be defined by your first traitline, F2 by your second and F3 by your 3rd.This would give you some currently non-existent customization over the order of your elements. Also for the F skill defining the Elite Spec traitline I would have it so that it acts like a large attack skill called say.. element fusion or fusion blast or something that's damage and effects are defined by what your other 2 F skills are.. so it could be a giant fireball that leaves a healing water Aoe when it explodes if you're using fire and water or a arcane blast that causes a blinding sandstorm if your using Arcane and Earth etc.

The biggest problem with this concept though would be Arcane.. as Arcane doesn't function like an element thus has no weapon skills.. so those taking Fire and Air would have two usable elements and those taking fire and Arcane would not.For this Elite spec concept to work i'd introduce Arcane as a new usable Element only on this Elite Spec and give the Elementalist a whole new set of Arcane themed weapon skills for it's 5 core weapons plus whatever new weapon it gets as well. With only 2 usable elements rather than 4, having the ability to weapon swap will balance that out and allow Elementalist to retain it's unique ability to swap into 4 different weapon skill sets, only now you'll be changing weapons as well as elements and you'll only have access to weapon skills that are defined by what elements you've traited into.So if you choose Water and Earth you won't be able to use any Fire, Air or Arcane weapon skills.

I think something like this would be an interesting spec idea for Elementalist so if Anet decided to do something like this I'd be very interested in trying it out.

I feel like the 2 previous ESpecs have been themed playstyle-wise around specific perceived characteristics of the professions elements, Tempest for Air and Weaver for Water. It's a bit of a stretch but I like the idea.

So, in that light, for the next ESpec I would like an Earth-based one that emphasizes gameplay that somehow feels "solid" in a way but then kinda then kinda goes the polar opposite direction in terms of what it actually does.

Like how Weaver is supposed to be flowing and fluid like Water but then is just kinda clunky and awkward.

Edit: /sarcasm on that last bit if you didn't catch it.

Rifle mage because it would be an original concept that could borrow from the more often used bow mage (not to mention we already have it as a summon) but still be a distinct thing.

Anet made mesmers a thing, gave ele daggers and sword to great success. Sword is a straight up melee option more then any other set due to the elementalist's unique mechanic.

Let's see what they can do with a dedicated long range weapon like the rifle on a magus class. I'm still confident in Anet's ability to innovate and generally surprise me with a concept I'd otherwise think strange or untenable.

Maybe for the elite something like a long-range shot that's a delayed absolutely massive AoE fire explosion. Magic bullets, friends. Magic bullets.

I would say Longbow or Rifle, what I want given that both of the current elite specs are shoehorned into melee is a long range (1500) heavily offensive class that sacrifices most of it's healing and support to be the nuke that mages are stereotyped as. Fire would focus on AoE and some burn dots, Air on power single target, Earth on single target split between power and bleed dots, and Water on ice based slows and snares. Give options to gear for power or for dots as this is a common problem with elementalists as a whole.

I would imagine the next spec for Elementalist would be ranged DPS since Warhorn/Tempest and Sword/Weaver are both close ranged. We already have a conjured Frost Bow so I can't imagine them giving us Long or Short bow to avoid confusion. So it will probably be rifle. It could be pretty cool, different bullets for different attunmenets. I just hope they fix that stupid glitch with Asuras and Rifles, that grin just irks me.

Pretty much what I was thinking - the last thing elementalist needs is 3/3 melee-focused elite specialisations. Same for engineer, incidentally.

There's also a ton of elemental or otherwise magical rifle skins in the game (usually based off asura environmental weapons) which don't really work for a warrior, engineer, or deadeye. Be good to see a character that those skins would fit well for.

I think a long bow would be nice because (in my imagination) it would be a more responsive version of the staff. I love the 1200 range of the staff but it's clunky outside of PvE and WvW zerging. Magical pew-pew ftw.

ANet has not given a 2H weapon in either of the elites so far. I believe this is due to the work involved (20 new skills instead of 8 or 12). That's a pretty big delta to balance.

Dual pistol would also be epic, but I bet we'd get only main hand (or off hand) instead of both. Spell Breaker did get dagger/dagger, but that's only 5 new skills instead of 20.

Currently (bad or good) ele has these:-Ranged aoe (staff)-Mid range single target dps (scepter)-Short range melee-ish (dagger)

  • Melee (sword)

With these you can have good sustain, gimmicky dps, paper long range dps that can be shut down with a sneeze, ok condi dmg, ok dps. I think what ele can use is either a greatsword style high dps, high cleave melee or a longbow like weapon that can cover long range single target dps.

But what I desire for my dear ele is an elite spec that can make him a good sorcerer/wizard with different options. I do not know how it can happen but I really feel the need to play a proper mage in this game. Staff ele is barely cutting it.

I remember my first tries as a elementalist. I was like "Oh, boy, I want to be master of earth! Or air"... I don't like the idea of "Fire is for damage", "Water for support only", "Earth for control". I want other attunements to be destructive as Fire. I wish we could choose one attunement and boost it for damage, while "nerfing" others. You can be master of whatever you like.

I don't know what elite spec's weapon would be. We have conjured weapons (Axe, Shortbow, Shield, Hammer, Greatsword). This should be something new. What left is: Mace, Longbow, Torch and every one-handed weapon for off-I think ele needs something... original, like Focus on mainhand. This could be mid range weapon.
