Knife Tail Gang Hunting Bond -- where did the loot box go?

Got one of the boxes on an alt acct and got dragon wings skin (no gliding on that acct yet). Thought cool, so went to my main acct and played in heavy respawn areas. Saw various loot including the box icon after killing the Skritt. After 4 or 5, I found a safe spot and opened my inventory. No boxes. Lots of the regular stuff from killing things, but no boxes. They showed up on the right hand side of screen that lists items as I get them. Anyone else experience this?

From what I saw you will earn "suspicious boxes" from killing them, however, if the buff is not active you will not find them in your inventory. The box is opened automatically and your earn a trophy worth 2 copper instead.

Suspicious Packages are auto-opened upon receipt and award Junk/Trophy items.
If you had the Knife Tail Gang Hunting Bond on, and feel you should have been awarded a Recovered Black Lion Goods, check all your bags (one or more might be collapsed) and/or use GW2Efficiency.

Also, if you did not purchase and use 4 or 5 Knife Tail Hunting Bonds, you would not be awarded 4 or 5 'boxes'.
