Why does Jormag care if the commander comes north?

The Commander manned the cannons and fought of minions to take down Zhaitan while DE stood around, being useless. The Commander took down Scarlet with a handful of friendsThe Commander went into Mordris mind with two alliesThe Commander killed Caudecus and his jade support with a handful of friends. The Commander fought Balthazar to exhaustion, was killed AND FOUGHT his/her way back into the world of the livingThe Commander killed Balthazar with a friendThe Commander killed Kralkatorik with a handful of friends.

It is always The Commander et all. Not 'a group send by the commander' or 'heroes under the command of'. The Commander.

Which means, the commander is a total badass and nobody in his right mind would want beef with this powerful i-slay-everything-in-my-path-and-then-some-more living weapon of mass destruction (and the commander is a weapon of mass destruction. Just ask centaurs, dredge, flame legion, nightmare court, risen, branded, awakened, white mantle/bandits, mordrem who s/he slayed in legions. Literally, if you look at your achievements).

Does the commander make use of allies? Sure. But an ICBM carrying nuclear warheads also needs support. The thing is, you don't want this person coming after you. Life is much, much easier with this beast on your side.

And Jormag realized that.

Real life examples: people got really excited about tank aces or warship captains. A warship captain does not personally fire the guns. And still gets more credit than the gunner whose shot made Queen Mary explode. Because it is his leadership that enables the gunner to take the lucky shot. Tank aces commanded the tanks, it was the TEAM that had to work. Still, you did not want to face some tank ace, even if you knew that his most trusted driver is on sick leave and someone else is covering for him.

Don't forget about Joko and Lazarus too, both fell in combat with the commander and their allies as well. The latter of which to our knowlede made one of the last surviving elder races officially extinct.

Jotun and Dwarves remain the only 2 confirmed Elder races still alive but neither exist in their true forms anymore, Dwarves being stone now and Jotun having fallen into primitive savagery. As for the Forgotten.. their continued existence remains unknown, however they are presumed extinct on Tyria.

Even if the commander isn't the strongets tyrian in terms of raw power (being whatever class he/she is), he/she is indeed amongst the most strongest mortals in Tyria. Raw power is not determinant, but the ability to use one's power and skills to topple most opponents and challenges, so, for example, even if there are more stronger mesmers in terms of raw power (queen jenna, to name one), a mesmer commander has proven to be the most skillfull in battle. At least, thats how I begun to see it.
