Hey I was curious if any one else is bothered that we can dye a back piece that doubles up as both a back pack and glider but can only dye the glider portion yet when it is in it's backpack state it is reset to it's original default colors.

It comes up every now and again so yes people are bothered by it.

For technical reasons back packs - like weapons - have been stated as not something ever likely to be retroactively added for channels due to the insane amount of work to do so (ie they weren't designed for channels and to add channels to all items and adjust in the messy older code is what they term "non-trivial")

Equipment functionality is hardcoded. Anet cannot add new functions to equipment slots which have been in the game since launch without breaking something important. Adding color channels would also require to remake all backpacks.

I don't understand why it is deemed non-trivial when the reason why people grind in end game is for the fashion wars. This aspect is also part of "end game" content for some. And would most likely increase revenue if players knew that they have the flexibility to alter the colors of their purchases, much like mount skins. If players knew that mount skins were locked in color in particular aspect they wouldn't even invest in purchasing it.

Non-trivial as meaning it is not something they could just easily add. Would take a lot of time, resources and apparently a very large patch. And then tons of stuff would be breaking and needing hotfixed. It would be a right mess for them and us.

They prob believe they couldn't redeem the costs on it when they'd have to sacrifice more important thinks that would also generate revenue

It needed to be added at the start and for whatever reason, that opportunity was not taken (although to be fair, most wardrobe functions wren't in at the start, so it is unsurprising they may not have though ahead on this part given other more pressing matters)
