Creslin.1758
I feel like the Spellbreaker spec is in a odd place right now. It's simultaneously one of the best PvP specs, but one of the worse PvE ones. It's easy to see why it's so good in PvP. The meta right now is all about condi damage and spellbreaker nullifies tons of condi damage with its extremely long resistance uptime. Not only that, but full counter provides a fairly low CD way of blocking damage and dealing large damage in return. Couple this with things like endure pain and shield 5, and you have a heavy hitting powerhouse that has remarkable staying power. In PvE though...the game is all about either doing tons of damage or providing buffs that enhance your party's damage. And spellbreaker here falls short. It just doesn't have the raw DPS that a spec like berserker has. Spellbreaker would be an excellent tank with its resistance and full counter, but GW2 doesn't have tanking so it doesn't help much.So I feel like spellbreaker needs to be made more viable in PvE...I don't think it's good to have a spec that is amazing in one area but sucks in the other. To this end, I think it would help if spellbreaker were given some talents that let full counter affect group mates in a certain range, as well as sharing resistance somehow. This talent could be PvE and WvW only to prevent it from affecting PvP. Anyway, this would let spellbreaker help keep the party alive by providing immunity to condi damage and blocking certain heavy hitting attacks. It would never be a DPS powerhouse, but it would still serve an important purpose in things like fractals. Shafi.8952
Spellbreaker highlights the sweetspot of what the game is lacking. Not sure if intentional or unintentional.Tanks have no role in PvE.Conditions are too powerful in PvP.You can't buff the spellbreaker or nerf it without making it too broken or too useless in one of the game modes. The existence of spellbreaker shows what the game modes are missing. Conditions are too powerful in PvE as well.... the problem is PvE (all of it) fails to highlight that fact due to it only seems to reward offensive focus. Raids pushed this even further, and they [the players] uniformly fail to understand why thats such a huge problem for the game as a whole. But you are absolutely right that SB shows a major difference between the PvP and PvE modes........ and despite some effort in that direction, the Devs still aren't designing open world and raid encounters to reward small engagements.
