Alaina.7245 Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Has GW2 considered offering a 4th mastery level for the Skyscale, that you can purchase in the Diamond store, that will allow your Skyscale to fly, in any direction, without losing altitude, the same way as the characters used to fly in the game, City of Heroes. That will significantly improve players enjoyment when using this mount, rather than continuously having to land, or hop up cliffs, to gain altitude. It could be permitted ONLY for players who have already mastered all levels of this mount. It will also help generate funds for the game as well. - Alaina

Donari.5237 Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Pretty much no, sorry.First, are you talking about griffon or skyscale? Title says one, text says the other.Second, the amount of flight you get out of either is different, and pretty carefully designed by the devs to give the amount of freedom of movement they desire and no more than that. In the few areas where even that is enough to break desired game elements, mounts are disabled. Forced loss of altitude elsewhere is part of the design, requiring some clever and active work by the player to get to higher ground.Third, ANet had nothing to do with City of Heroes. It was in no way "their prior game." NCSoft is a parent company acting to help publish the game(s) but ANet has retained significant independence from NCSoft. I'd be surprised if any of the CoH devs have ever worked for ANet, and if they have, it was in the nature of turnover and moving on to better positions (or to any position after CoH got axed, I guess).
Inculpatus cedo.9234 Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Did you mean Griffon or Skyscale? (Title)ArenaNet is not, nor was, associated with City of Heroes.
Teratus.2859 Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 You're basically talking about free flying on Skyscale which has been requested many times already.Personally i'm all for it as the current "limits" on the Skyscales flight ability are completely pointless.I've said many times that free flying wouldn't change anything as the Skyscale can already do everything that people against free flying claim would be "gamebreaking" if it had that ability. Many players have been creative with mounts since they were first introduced and despite Anet's efforts it is still exceptionally easy to bypass everything, break out of pretty much every map and circumvent most of the games puzzles to go straight to the end by using mounts and gliding abilities. So free flying literally wouldn't change anything in that regard at all, it would just remove the need to land on the ground every few seconds and that's it.The other common argument I hear is Griffon and other mounts being replaced but that's not true either.Griffon will always be the faster flier so Skyscale high, bond off swap Griffon and go would be a regular thing to cross maps quickly.. which again is something you can do in game right now, it's just takes a bit more time to setup right depending on the terrain.Land mounts will be no more replaced than they already are, people still use them despite the Skyscale because while the Skyscale can do what they do, the other mounts simply do it better or at the very least.. faster and that will always make people want to use them.So free flying literally changes nothing, it's basically little more than a QOL improvement which is why I support it and will be hard to convince otherwise.
kharmin.7683 Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Yeah, it's already been said that the current flight mechanics are by design. It is what the devs wanted, so I don't expect it to change.
kratan.4619 Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 The zones are so small to begin with that I rarely have to fly somewhere far enough away to have to land more than a couple times in the biggest zones anyway.
Alaina.7245 Posted February 28, 2020 Author Posted February 28, 2020 My apologies, I do mean Skyscale, and not the Griffon. I corrected the title. Thank you for your comments!!
Westenev.5289 Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 A map based around flying and air combat sounds cool, but full flight in general seems off to me. Maybe in GW3, maps could be designed with full flight in mind?
