how much damage do i need to do in order to get event credit

I have come late to some events, pve and taking wvw objectives, wack a few times and haven't gotten credit. is there a way to know how much damage I need to do in order to get credit? is 1,000 damage enough? 10,000 damage? maybe it is a percentage of the objectives health? thank for any information.

Depends on event. For events with multiple enemies killing anything will be enough. For WvW killing any of the NPCs would could or standing in the capture circle. For defense repairing anything would count.

I don't know about WvW since the latest change to damages but in PvE the threshold should be 5.000 (per foes) at level 80 in order to get exp and loots from killed targets, to get credit from the whole event you should at least kill one mob with the mentioned threshold.

In PvE it probably depends on the event, so I can't really tell. But in WvW you must stay inside the circle when you claim an objective, and NOT mounted. You can even get the credit for claiming a camp/tower without hitting a single mob.Unless you're talking about the few exp points that you receive for killing a guard/supervisor: in that case usually it's enough a single hit.

WvW is too random to tell.

I've gotten gold when a keep was taken 20 minutes after I accidentally sneezed on a guard when running past and I've gotten nothing after killing 10 enemies inside, dpsing the lord 100-0 with the rest of the zerg but didnt stand in the circle the last 10% of cap.

Technically a tag is only like 10% hp of a target, but keep in mind that the threshhold lower if you have supported friendlies hitting on the same target. If you are a healer, you can tag by doing next to no damage in large groups.

The calculation is also not simply pure damage based.

Certain skills and abilities will yield higher or lower event credit.

It's best to think of event credit being increased by different things done (ressurecting someone with credit, healing, giving boons, etc.), and once the threshold is passed, you get rewarded.

The crdit required seems to scale with duration of the event and how long you were present. Hence why sometimes you will get gold for just simply joining at the end.

A bit more details on the "it depends". The event with the three champion husks in the Caledon jungle wurm pre-event is probably at the extreme of "it depends". It is possible to get the champ bags from all three and still not get credit for the event but it is also possible to get gold participation while barely participating.
