Sviel.7493
While I'm 100% not into the gvg scene, this video also works as a one-sided, general WvW history. All but two of the guilds mentioned are gvg focused, but that is in part due to the greater ease of becoming famous in that arena. It's interesting seeing the sort of impact such groups have had on the combat meta...and disheartening to see just how steep a drop-off there was after HoT and again after PoF.I still wish I had a found an obnoxious defensive guild before those died out, but that was many years ago so...oh well... subversiontwo.7501
I think I've mentioned this before: While you're not entirely wrong in saying that there has been a drop-off around each expansion you should also keep in mind that the largest drop-off has been among mid-tier fighting guilds. The GvG scene is to a rather sizable part still inhabited by the players who have always been there. Some people disappear or drift off and only skirt the communities they once created, some groups go on hiatus, merge or reform under other names etc. However, players who have played together in one group also tend to play together in other groups. The scene in that sense is very inbred. The same goes for the more well-known sides of the fighting guilds that intermingle with the GvG guilds and end up on the same stacks. The people are still "around" the game in some shape or form, they're just not playing very actively or very organized due to Anet's management of the mode or their own relationship to the game or life-situation. This is the case for EU at least.
