Utility Station Recipes need adjustment.

Recommended Posts

The Maintenance Oil, Sharpening Stone and Tuning Crystal Station recipes are absurdly expensive to craft, so while they last for 90 minutes on your character (despite the tooltip saying 1hr) and can be used by everyone in the area, they never get crafted or used because of material cost. And, they are a cool model too! If they were cost effective, people could share them more. Considering Ascended feasts that give better stats are between 20-50s, paying 28g to share a utility is pretty ridiculous.

Maintenance Oil Station: 28g to Craft

Tuning Crystal Station: 18g to Craft

Sharpening Stone Station: 15g to Craft

Other than the time taken, you are better off buying 240 utility items from the TP and mailing three each to all eighty people on your map, its far cheaper.

Changing the recipe to require vastly less materials or instead use utility items themselves to craft them, like X amount of Wintersday Uilities. That would increase the demand and amounts being used since there are millions of oils and crystals floating around.

Or, perhaps just add an ascended station recipe that allows you to choose which utility you want. 500 Jeweler?

They can't have planned it because if they did, they'd have known that requiring 1500 leather for a Maintenance Oil Station is too many for people to reliably use them. Because why bother adding something to the game that you know will not be used? I could understand if it was, say 10 mystic coins and the price being high due to the demand for those being higher, therefore the price has gone up. But it's over a thousand base materials to make these, they are the cheapest materials you can buy and do not fluctuate much. The recipe just requires too many.

There should be an accountbound recipe requiring WvW ingredients as an alternative craft method. Simply dropping the cost would result in PvE players profiteering off WvW players.

The sharpening stone station and writs are too expensive for smaller squads to utilize.

edit: the only other place it would see use is openworld, because for 5-10 person instanced content it just isn't sustainable.

I agree with you on the recipe, but not your reasons.

Perhaps we can agree on the following;Utility Stations should brought to a par with ascended Feasts.

Anti-social players that complain strikes are too hard because they don't play with other people in a MMO will say "I can't get scribe that high because I don't have a guildhall, Arenanet it's unfair!"

In all seriousness though, it should not be so expensive that a 50 man squad using it does not make out ahead over just sending everyone superior sharpening stones (<10s for 30 min) , potent superior sharpening stones (<17s crafted for 1 hour) or fruitcakes (<11s , but during Wintersday about half that). Even a writ (30 min duration) with essentially the same functionality has a cost of around 1 to 2 gold. In order for it to compete in instanced PvE it would need to be below ~3g (i.e. for 10 people x 2 sharpening stones each) and even less for fractals' 5 man content. I really doubt that kind of reduction will occur.

17s x 50 people = 8.5g17s x 10 people = 1.7g

Let's not forget there isn't an in-world version of Bountiful Maintenance Oil which is typically used for Minstrel / healing builds. That's roughly 24 silvers each for 30 min and it's accountbound. That's another reason why people tend to play damage spec if new to WvW or instanced content, it's just more costly (upfront and running) in general to play support (not to mention more blame & effort involved in a casual group setting). So if you're going to suggest a reduction in cost for DPS-oriented shared utility there should be a new recipe for a healing-type of shared utility especially because it is going to be roughly 20-40% of the squad rather than the majority.

This could easily be an outlet for legendary spikes or emblems of the avenger to be honest.
