How does Effect LOD work?

Not sure if I’m asking this in the right place. I’m big on seeing as much pretty graphics that I can see. However, I usually have to click on Effect LOD during large group metas to keep my FPS in the double digits. The real question is can I leave the Effect LOD on when I’m playing solo and not see a difference in the particle effects or will it limit my particle effects to a degree that I’ll notice even though it’s just me on the screen?

It doesn't affect your own skills, it just makes allies see more toned-down versions. Though sometimes this makes group play difficult, for example allies skills that have combo fields (especially Smoke fields) may not appear properly.
