Sykes.5684
Skip to 1:42 if it doesn't take you there already. THAT is what is desperately needed for pets. They behave themselves when out of combat and should have a quick and easy toggle that combines your attack order with the pet's defend/avoid-combat mode. Notice how the first attack from the pet in this video is a large leap, and every subsequent attack is another smaller leap that accurately follows moving targets.Ranger pets should not have trash mob AI! Vacant.4159
Every other fucking game is able to get pets to work. It's hopeless at this point.
Fluffball.8307
My imagined view of what has happened:We know two things.1) Pets had ambient monster AI from launch, i.e. your drake pet has the same idiot AI as a Queensdale drake.2) Back in the glory days of PvP, a shit fuck ton of high level PvPers who were good friends with the balance devs and even played on the same PvP teams hated ranger, and the idea of a pet doing damage over a "human" killing them. There were zero ranger advocates pointing out the obvious flaws in that thought.1+1= shitty pets.Edit: And let's just say when there used to be a PvP team, they were a hard drinking bunch. I've seen enough to get the general idea as they PvPed with big name PvP streamers.
Redfeather.6401
In Black Desert pets are hardly a threat except for 'flow' moves, where pets have moves that were add-ons to specific player's moves. The witch can conjure shards of earth and punch them forward in a series of blasts. During this move the player can choose to use a 'flow' where their earth elemental pet will roll forward toward the target adding extra hits. I've seen enough to get the general idea as they PvPed with big name PvP streamers.I was there towards the end. It was hard. I got added in because I was a ranger and all the PvP people who had already been there for many many months were not. But this was a mix of PvE and WvW playerd too, of all skills levels.I tried to argue that Rangers should be able to control all pet skills then they should wait a little and see how it went and then tweak pets and ranger accordingly. GW2 has a balance team that oversees all. There is/at the time was no PvP balance team, just the overrall balance team. Unfortunately I think this means they lack some perspective. Anyway the argument I got from the balance team was ALWAYS that allowing the ranger to control all the pet skills was too overwhelming and complex for new/casual players. They felt the skill floor would be too high. But... from what I gather about Weaver...
Substance E.4852
Trying Hunter in WoW is like night and day in terms of how they make the pet work.-Basic Skill that zips your pet right to the target so it's always in melee range http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Kill_Command-Pet has the same movement speed as you is always nearby. Similar to the OP video.-All pets function the same allowing for maximum choice (which is an insane amount, nearly every monster/animal)-Pet stats function as a set of 3 specs that you can choose from. A DPS, tank, and pvp focused one.-The pet (at least on BM) is essentially just a unique way of dealing damage, not some superfluous mechanic that requires a chunk of your attention to even make work. While it was much more simple and probably can't completely work in GW2, I never once felt like the pet was a hindrance or that I was giving something up to have it. Mister Asdasd.6194
Pets are really unreliable in this game. Sometimes the whole team relies on you to have your pet deal that little more cc to deplete a breakbar and it takes ages until your pet actually does the move.
